Books are Rosie Taft’s life. And ever since she took over her mother’s beloved Manhattan bookstore, they’ve become her home too. The only thing missing is her own real-life romance like the ones she loves to read about, and Rosie has an idea of who she might like to sweep her off her feet. Really Didn’t Care for it
Revisado: 12-13-23
I wanted more character development and I wanted to identify with one of the characters, but I just didn’t. I wanted it to be more of a slow burn. The tropes weren’t for me and the narrator wasn’t for me. I stuck with it to see if my feelings would change as the story progressed, but it really didn’t. I know I’m in the minority, but it just wasn’t my jam.

Historia
Growing up the daughter of notorious treasure hunter and absentee father Duke Wilder left Lily without much patience for the profession…or much money in the bank. But Lily is resourceful, and now uses Duke’s coveted hand-drawn maps to guide tourists on fake treasure hunts through the red rock canyons of Utah. It pays the bills but doesn’t leave enough to fulfill her dream of buying back the beloved ranch her father sold years ago, and definitely not enough to deal with the sight of the man she once loved walking back into her life with a motley crew of friends ready to hit the trails.

Mildly Entertaining
Revisado: 10-29-22
I struggle with romance, so take it with a grain of salt. The romance is cheesy, the adventure predictable.
Was is entertaining? A bit.
Would I recommend it? Ehhh…
That said, if you enjoy Chick lit, cheesy romance, and a “National Treasure” esq story - you’ll find this entertaining.

Ugh
Revisado: 09-15-22
This book was a slog to get through. The beginning felt promising. I enjoyed the getting to know you / honeymoon phase Grant and Cecily had.
After that it was just so vapid and unrealistic. Cecily went against all her instincts, lied at every corner, was as stupid as Anastasia Steele or Bella Swan. She literally had zero agency.
I genuinely laughed out loud at moments that were supposed to be serious. Just so unrealistic and unrelatable.
All that said, there was a modicum of entertainment value. I did finish the book. It was the type of entertainment I derive from a B rated movie or low budget horror flick.
Overall, I would not recommend.

Wanted A Bit More
Revisado: 08-27-22
I really wanted more consequences for Finch. What he did was CRIMINAL. He should have been prosecuted criminally, the internal school $hit was 🤬😡. The idea of having school ramifications only is so infuriating - even if realistic. Also, the likelihood of him being a good person later in life, I find that REALLY hard to believe.
That said, I was engaged and did overall enjoy the listen. I would read it again. The performance was excellent! I really do love Emily Giffin.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

First off I couldn’t put the book down. I needed to know the children were safe in the end. Somehow Ron pulled at my heart so much.
I’ve met people like Shelly, they such you into their vortex with love bombing, create addictions, and slowly start flipping the script.
Horrifying. My heart breaks for the sisters, Kathy, Ron, and respective families.
Definite trigger warning. Lots of detailed descriptions of severe physical and psychological torture. Abject mind #uckary. Read at your own risk.

Meh
Revisado: 03-07-17
Would you try another book from Jon Katz and/or Tom Stechschulte?
I don't know. I don't think so. The narrator I liked, just not the content.
What was most disappointing about Jon Katz’s story?
I recently lost a dog. I'm vegetarian, dog trainer and likely compassionate to a fault. I really needed to hear something about dogs and how we love and grieve dogs. This book was about that, but he also discussed how animals are different than humans, how we need to prioritize human relationships, how dogs are not people and we shouldn't grieve them the same. I am in the middle of grief for my 12 year old dog, and this message just doesn't jive with my heart and ethics. You may enjoy this book much more than I. I don't think everyone needs to have the same perspective I do. For me, my dogs are their own person. I don't see them as human, but I don't value them differently than a human. He discussed shooting a little lamb with a 22 caliber gun, and although I recognize the lamb may have been suffering, I struggle with his method of euthanasia. If you are like me, I don't know if you'll enjoy this book. If you are a farmer and have a different perspective, you'll likely get a lot more out of it. I wanted to like it. I needed to like it, but I just couldn't. Its one of the few books I stopped listening too.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes,
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
His discussion on grieving his dog.
