Historia
On November 6, 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the fluky victor in a tight race for president. The country was bitterly at odds; Southern extremists were moving ever closer to destroying the Union, with one state after another seceding and Lincoln powerless to stop them. Slavery fueled the conflict, but somehow the passions of North and South came to focus on a lonely federal fortress in Charleston Harbor: Fort Sumter.

Could not stand the reader. First of all the reader is very hard to hear. And I just couldn’t stand his voice. Sounded like an old man. I’m not going to finish listening to it but reading it instead.

Interesting story
Revisado: 11-17-23
I found this book interesting as I’m assuming a lot of it is based on fact. Which is sad, but probably true. I thought the reader was fantastic. One of the best readers I’ve ever heard.

Great reader, and fascinating story
Revisado: 09-28-23
I knew nothing about code girls until I read this book. I just found out from my sister that my mother was a code girl. So the story was of particular interest to me. I loved the way the author included very personal stories of the individual women.
They really were the greatest generation.

Many of his old friends are long gone, the new mafia leadership has become entangled in increasingly violent and dangerous intrigues, and a fabled holy man challenges everything that Lin thought he'd learned about love and life.

Historia
After being rescued as infants from a sinking ocean liner in 1914, Marian and Jamie Graves are raised by their dissolute uncle in Missoula, Montana. There—after encountering a pair of barnstorming pilots passing through town in beat-up biplanes—Marian commences her lifelong love affair with flight. At fourteen she drops out of school and finds an unexpected and dangerous patron in a wealthy bootlegger who provides a plane and subsidizes her lessons, an arrangement that will haunt her for the rest of her life, even as it allows her to fulfill her destiny: circumnavigating the globe.

I loved this book so much that I read it and now have listened to it again. Even better on audible. I'm afraid that no other book will ever compare to this book for me. I cherished every moment. So beautifully written and narrated no words can do it justice.
Thank you Amor Towles for writing such a beautiful story!

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

The only redeeming feature of this book was the reader Carey Mulligan.
Initially I liked the concept but after a while it got tedious and stupid.

Historia
Early one morning, less than a month after her 18th birthday, Alexandrina Victoria is roused from bed with the news that her uncle William IV has died, and she is now queen of England. The men who run the country have doubts about whether this sheltered young woman, who stands less than five feet tall, can rule the greatest nation in the world. Surely she must rely on her mother and her venal advisor, Sir John Conroy, or her uncle, the Duke of Cumberland, who are all too eager to relieve her of the burdens of power.

What happened to the rest of the story
Revisado: 11-08-20
I was very disappointed by this book. It was less than half of the PBS television series. I expected a lot more book. Also disappointed by some of the writing. Every time the author wrote about Victoria biting her lip I wanted to cringe.

Historia
In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." The target in their sights was Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Special Operations Executive, the spy organization dubbed Winston Churchill's "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." She became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and - despite her prosthetic leg - helped to light the flame of the French Resistance, revolutionizing secret warfare as we know it.

Loved the reader. Juliet Stevenson is great. The book was very interesting and held my attention the whole way through. I’ve read a lot about this era of history but this book was probably the most truthful and insightful.
