Historia
With high stock and bond prices and the rising cost of housing, the post-subprime boom may well turn out to be another illustration of Shiller's influential argument that psychologically driven volatility is an inherent characteristic of all asset markets. In other words, Irrational Exuberance is as relevant as ever. Previous editions covered the stock and housing markets - and famously predicted their crashes. This edition expands its coverage to include the bond market, so that the book now addresses all of the major investment markets.

a little dry, but still insightful
Revisado: 11-15-24
I found myself wanting to take notes for further study as I went through this, but I also found myself frequently losing concentration due to the dry nature of the book.

A great starter for self-discipline
Revisado: 10-11-24
If you hare read other books on self-discipline, motivation, or other related topics, then you will probably not find much new information in this book. There is some information from recent studies that might adapt your perspective on these topics, so it is worth reading if you have read other similar books. If you have not read any other books on this topic then this is a great starter for you and it gives references to other notable books for further reading if you want to learn more.

Historia
Ever since he was a kid, kicking broken soccer balls on the run-down streets of East London, Gary Stevenson dreamed of something bigger. As luck would have it, he was good at numbers. At the London School of Economics, wearing tracksuits and sneakers, Stevenson shocked his posh classmates by winning a competition called “The Trading Game.” The prize? A golden ticket to a new life, as the youngest trader at Citibank.

More of an autobiography than anything else
Revisado: 09-29-24
Gary's book is a collection of somewhat random stories from the early part of his career. If you are looking for a book that gives you insight into trading then this is not the one. I did learn a thing or two about trading from the perspective of a market insider, but the majority of the book just goes through Gary's learning experiences as he developed his character rather than his trading skills. I would say that it is still worth reading or listening to, but don't think of this as a book about trading. The book is entertaining.

Possibly the most insightful trading book so far
Revisado: 09-29-24
I have read and listened to many trading and investing books and they range from almost useless to quite useful. Donnelly's book seems to be the most insightful so far, and I think the main reason I feel that way is that he constantly drives home the fact that being successful trader is very difficult and you constantly have to be thinking about your edge and trying to come up with new ideas. As he puts it, the barrier to entry is pretty low, so the competition is fierce. You can't succeed by thinking and behaving like everybody else. There are plenty of other books out that that present a simple strategy for successful trading, but Donnelly insists that if it were that easy it wouldn't pay well.

Insightful but ultimately not all that actionable
Revisado: 08-17-24
I found this book to be interesting and very insightful, but given the title I felt that the book didn't really deliver on giving a solid set of guidelines for dealing with people with borderline personality disorders. It's not that there was no advice, but the advice was sparse and to some extent you could argue that you just have to 'deal with it'. Or put differently you could say that the book educates you on 'how to walk on eggshells'. If you want to literally 'stop walking on eggshells' you really have to end the relationship with person who has the disorder.

Useful insight
Revisado: 08-11-24
Books like this don't really work that well as audiobooks; it's hard to follow what the author is conveying a lot of the time. I did still manage to gain some insight from this book though, so it was not a complete waste of time.

Somewhat interesting, but could be a lot shorter
Revisado: 07-25-24
At first I thought this was just going to end up being a regurgitation of a lot of the information in Thinking Fast and Slow since Kahneman and Tversky are mentioned many times, but there is a decent amount of different content in Levitin's book. I did feel that the 16 hours+ as an audio book was excessive. If I had tried to read the printed book it probably would have taken me a month, and there really isn't that much interesting or useful content in the book. There's a lot of content covering the organization of a paper filing cabinet for example, which I really use minimally now.

Underwhelming and unclear
Revisado: 10-30-22
I found this book to be underwhelming and somehow I feel that I missed the point of it. The author explains about cravings but from more of an academic perspective. One thing I found ironic is that the author talks about how we crave attention and praise, but it seems the whole purpose of the book is for the reader to be amazed at the genius of the author.

Craig Beck is a well-regarded family man with two children, a nice home, and a successful media career; a director of several companies and at one time the trustee of a large children’s charity. Outwardly, Craig was a highly successful and functioning professional man in spite of a ‘two-bottles-of-wine-a-night" drinking habit. For 20 years he struggled to control his drinking, all the time refusing to label himself an alcoholic because he didn't believe he met the stereotypical image that the word portrayed.

A short simple book with a powerful message
Revisado: 10-15-22
I wasn't expecting much from this book and when I realized it was only half the length of most books I expected even less. But Craig's message comes through very clear and early in the book. I can't say what the long-term effect will be on me specifically, but certainly in the immediate term it has been very impactful.
