David McCullough presents a vivid dramatization of the single most important year in the history of the American revolution. Our independence from England swung in the balance at several key battle sites and save for a bit of luck and some incredible bravery, demonstrated by a small outnumbered army of true patriots, it may have never happened. 1776 was the year that America was born but this novel details the labor pains the nation suffered durring that birth. Masterful descriptions of battle details, strategies, and tactics. A living historical version of that fateful year. Well worth reading or listening.

A simple man from a working immigrant family becomes an iconic legend in America's national pastime, baseball. A diminutive giant among heroes in Yankee history, the bridge between old and new. Holder of some of the most prestigious major league records, particularly world series records, which likely will never be broken in the modern free agency era. A humble man dedicated to family and principle, remembered as much for his "Berra"ism expressions as his baseball ability. A book which captures the essence of the man while transporting the reader back to the glory days of baseball. Relive some outstanding historical events with the firsthand perspective only Yogi can provide. Most enjoyable. Those were the days.

Accurrate first hand accounts from participants, both blue and grey, and local residents. Totally different perspective from other narrative descriptions of the battle and events that led up to those three fateful days in July of 1863. Even for a veteran Gettysburg battle follower as myself this was a master class above and beyond any previous experience. Born and raised in Gettysburg, and a lifelong tourist of the area, with countless trips to musuems and field displays, I still gained many new insights. History from the mouths of witnesses, first hand, from letters, diaries and news accounts of the day. Powerful stuff.
