Historia
Who is The Horoscope Writer? It’s not Bobby Frindley. He’s an ex-Olympic athlete who has fast-talked his way into an entry-level position at a dying newspaper. He’s supposed to be writing horoscopes, but someone has been doing his job for him . . . On his first night on the job, Bobby receives an email with twelve gruesome, highly detailed horoscopes, along with a chilling ultimatum: print them and one will come true, or ignore them and all of them will.

Disjointed and poorly written
Revisado: 09-08-24
There is a good idea behind this book, but the story is disjointed and the characters are not well developed. The pacing is terrible too.

Terrible
Revisado: 02-26-24
The bad reviews of this book were far more entertaining than the book itself.
Spoilers I guess:
This dude was convinced in 5 minutes based on one piece of flimsy evidence that the whole world is a simulation. That’s when I decided to come check out the reviews. I wonder how much this author paid audible to recommend this book to everyone who hated it.

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

So long and bad audio quality
Revisado: 09-19-19
I kept hearing the narrator bumping into the microphone and making weird noises with his mouth. I stuck with it hoping for a good resolution to the story, but I didn’t even get that. The book should have been half as long.

Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

Not suspenseful at all
Revisado: 12-28-18
I don’t know if it was the narrator’s slow and mopey voice, or the fact that I couldn’t connect with or care about any of the characters, but this book just plodded on. I felt no suspense while reading, and no surprise at the ending. Very disappointed.

Historia
Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

Horrible narration detracted from the story
Revisado: 10-25-18
My third grader reads aloud better than this narrator does. No inflection, flat affect, and no distinction between characters. She sounded more bored than I felt. If a character was asking a question in the dialog, she would read the whole line as a question, including the non-dialog parts. I hope they get a new narrator for the sequels or I won’t be buying them.

Historia
This is the story of Michael Talbot, his family, and his friends: a band of ordinary people trying to get by in extraordinary times. When disaster strikes, Mike, a self-proclaimed survivalist, does his best to ensure the safety and security of those he cares for. Book one of the Zombie Fallout Trilogy follows our lead character at his self-deprecating, sarcastic best. What he encounters along the way leads him down a long dark road, always skirting the edge of insanity.

Worst waste of a credit ever!
Revisado: 05-31-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone with the sense of humor of a 10-year-old boy, and no idea what proper grammar is.
What could Mark Tufo have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Hired an editor or 2 or 3.
What didn’t you like about Sean Runnette’s performance?
The material he was reading was the biggest problem.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Zombie Fallout?
The scenes weren't the problem. The awful awful writing and horrible sentence construction and misogyny were the problem.
Any additional comments?
Don't waste a credit on this book.

Historia
Elegant, enigmatic Jay Gatsby yearns for his old love, the beautiful Daisy. But she is married to the insensitive if hugely successful Tom Buchanan, who won’t let her go despite having a mistress himself. In their wealthy haven, these beguiling lives are brought together by the innocent and entranced narrator, Nick – until their decadent deceits spill into violence and tragedy. Part morality tale, part fairy tale, The Great Gatsby is the consummate novel of the Jazz Age. Its tenderness and poetry make it one of the great works of the 20th century.

Excellent audiobook
Revisado: 09-24-12
Would you listen to The Great Gatsby again? Why?
Yes. It was well read by the narrator, and of course it is one of the best books ever written.
What did you like best about this story?
The setting, the tale of unrequited love-- even though Gatsby turns out to be a stalker.
What does William Hope bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
This might sound odd, but his voice seemed to fit with the era.

Historia
On May 13, 1945, 24 American servicemen and WACs boarded a transport plane for a sightseeing trip over “Shangri-La,” a beautiful and mysterious valley deep within the jungle-covered mountains of Dutch New Guinea. Unlike the peaceful Tibetan monks of James Hilton’s best-selling novel Lost Horizon, this Shangri-La was home to spear-carrying tribesmen, warriors rumored to be cannibals. But the pleasure tour became an unforgettable battle for survival when the plane crashed. Miraculously, three passengers pulled through.

It was all very memorable; the whole story is astounding. From the airplanes finding the hidden valley to the death-defying escape methods used by the pilots.

Nothing sticks out in my head as a favorite scene.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Historia
Scotland Yard Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and Sergeant Gemma James are sent to suburban Surrey to investigate the murder of a high-ranking police officer. Alastair Gilbert was bludgeoned to death in his kitchen, and the list of potential suspects is long--the man's arrogance earned him widespread enmity both in the village where he lived, and in police circles. But Duncan and Gemma must put aside their personal feelings--for the victim, as well as for each other--to solve the most troubling case either has faced.

Good story, good narration
Revisado: 09-24-12
Where does Mourn Not Your Dead rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book rates solidly in the upper middle. It was interesting enough to keep me engaged and wanting to know what happened next.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Not really. The plot was a little bit slow compared with some thrillers I have read. BUT, that is not a bad thing. I liked the pacing of the story and I liked how the author took time to develop the characters a little bit more than is done in many books these days.
Have you listened to any of Michael Deehy’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I'm not sure.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Neither.
