Disappointing in Every Way
Revisado: 03-24-22
To be perfectly honest, I did not like this book. The audio quality seemed terrible. I never got interested in the characters. I could not follow the plot because I could not tell which main character was speaking. I hope others find this more enjoyable.

Historia
Patty and Walter Berglund were the new pioneers of old St. Paul - the gentrifiers, the hands-on parents, the Whole Foods generation. Patty was the ideal sort of neighbor, who could tell you where to recycle your batteries and how to get the local cops to do their job. She was an enviably perfect mother and the wife of Walter's dreams. Together with Walter - environmental lawyer, commuter cyclist, total family man - she was doing her small part to build a better world.

So Painful, But Had To Finish
Revisado: 03-14-22
Resolution was essential for me, so I read until the end, as challenging as this was. I came to care about all the characters and wanted them to move on together.

Historia
Jonathan Franzen’s novels are celebrated for their unforgettably vivid characters and for their keen-eyed take on contemporary America. Now, in Crossroads, Franzen ventures back into the past and explores the history of two generations. With characteristic humor and complexity, and with even greater warmth, he conjures a world that resonates powerfully with our own.

This is the best book you will devour this year!
Revisado: 02-10-22
After reading this novel every morning, I spent a lot of time each day anticipating what the characters would do next. My total engagement in a novel is rare. Franzen has struck a nerve, hit my funny bone, and punched me in the guy with Crossroads. The narrator was perfect. I can't wait for the sequel.

What A Great Read!
Revisado: 10-27-21
Books and films about serial killers are my favorite, and this one has moved to the top of my own list. Jeri's determination is balanced by Lacy's rational approach. Both characters are well-developed. The judge is believable and scary. I almost wish he had escaped so we could have another book with him checking off his victims in Europe while being pursued by Lacy, who now works for Interpol. Great read, John Grisham. We want more!

Historia
Clare, one of the oldest women in Rhode Island, believes that all the painful secrets of her long life have been laid to rest, until an unexpected encounter with a piece of her past forces her to realize the time has come to tell her story. Ben, a shy, precocious six-year-old being gently raised by a devoted mom, witnesses a terrible crime and is taken to the hospital, bewildered and alone. Lucy, an overworked resident physician in Providence, meets Ben when he's brought into the ER. But between all-night shifts and trying to pick up the pieces of her failing marriage, she doesn't know how to help.

Fresh, fascinating, and finely crafted
Revisado: 06-17-21
Lately I have been disappointed with some of the books I have read or tried to read. The Possible World is not one of those. I have LOVED the book and could not put it down. Character development is a real strength; Clare, Lucy, and Ben will be forever memorable. The plot is fascinating, and the hospital background provides a fresh literary setting for human drama, as well as an intriguing medical mystery.

Historia
Like many well-to-do Upper East Siders over the age of 65, esteemed art appraiser Percival Skinner had planned to spend his retirement living off his savings. But a market correction has left him living below his prior means. One day he’s visited by a dapper fixer in search of a famous work by a Renaissance master. Skinner knows the work well: The original was owned by his ancestor, and was passed down through his family over the generations. If, as an intermediary, he can coordinate a sale, a small fortune awaits. Problem is, he might not be the only one on the make.

Add This Masterpiece To The Collection
Revisado: 06-14-21
The author is a master of details in developing endearing characters, crafting an intriguing plot, and weaving irony into the resolution. His fresh approach reminded me of O. Henry and Donna Tartt. The narrator was perfect for this short story. Personally, I would love to tour the Metropolitan with Uncle Percival for about a month!

Overextended plot, Underdeveloped characters
Revisado: 06-11-21
I had to make myself finish this audiobook. The plot was too complicated, involving too many characters that were not interesting at all. The narrator's attempt to use different voices was distracting and unconvincing. The legal background was educational.

Historia
In the early evening of June 25, 1980 in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, two middle-class outsiders named Vicki Durian, 26, and Nancy Santomero, 19, were murdered in an isolated clearing. They were hitchhiking to a festival known as the Rainbow Gathering but never arrived. For 13 years, no one was prosecuted for the "Rainbow Murders", though deep suspicion was cast on a succession of local residents in the community, depicted as poor, dangerous, and backward.

Captivating Story; Exhausting Narration
Revisado: 08-03-20
The analysis of this true crime story is brilliant; however, the narrator's voice is hard to understand and does not sustain energy to the end of the chapters. This audiobook would be greatly improved with a professional narrator who is more objective.
