Historia
After a life marbled with exploration, academia, and domesticity, the writer Valerie Lester retired to a residential hospice and set about enjoying the final act of her life. Yes. Enjoying. She knew just where she wanted to be, with whom, doing what, and she communicated this to her family and friends with clarity and consistency. She died nine weeks later, having engaged in dying with equanimity, curiosity, and even amusement.

Important book on Death and Dying
Revisado: 06-20-21
What a perfect title for this book. In the US, our culture seems to fear or in many cases, deny the reality that we are all going to die. I am a hospice nurse and it so sad to see many patients and families fight the dying process right up to the very last breath.
This book gives a different perspective on death. That of not fighting or denying the inevitable but rather embracing it as another part of life.
What a beautifully written deeply personal story! I applaud Alison Jean Lester for sharing hers and her parents experiences with the world. Bravo!
Performance by the author herself adds another wonderful layer to the story.

Historia
"I’m James Taylor and I’m a professional autobiographer", says the celebrated folk singer at the start of this tender audio memoir. Through decades of music by one of the best-selling musicians of all time, who created classics like "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in My Mind", James Taylor has doled out his history in the poetry of his work. Taylor says his early life is, "the source of many of my songs", and Break Shot is a tour of his first 21 years in rich, new detail.

Historia
Maddy is a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother, host of excellent parties, giver of thoughtful gifts, and bestower of a searingly perceptive piece of advice or two. She is the cornerstone of her family, a true matriarch...until she commits suicide, leaving her husband Brady and teenage daughter Eve heartbroken and reeling, wondering what happened. How could the exuberant, exacting woman they loved disappear so abruptly, seemingly without reason, from their lives? How they can possibly continue without her?

Brilliant!
Revisado: 06-16-17
This book deals head on with the issue of grief, something we need to talk more about in society. I also enjoyed the insight into teenagers. It was right on in so many ways.
I Like My Life, made me laugh, cry, and think hard about my life. And I wanted to get to the end to see what really happened to make Maddie jump off that building! Everything I want in a book.
I would highly recommend. Don't be turned off because it's about suicide. It's well worth the time.
