Historia
A Fenland Garden is the story of the creation of a garden in a complex and fragile English landscape—the Fens of southern Lincolnshire—by a writer who has a very particular relationship with landscape and the soil, thanks to his distinguished career as an archaeologist and discoverer of some of England's earliest field systems. It describes the imagining, planning and building of a garden in an unfamiliar and sometimes hostile place, and the challenges, setbacks and joys these processes entail.

Some English references are unknown to me. I had to Google them. Mr. Pryor gave us much to consider.

Historia
In the early 1800s, on a Hebridean beach in Scotland, the sea exposed an ancient treasure cache: 93 chessmen carved from walrus ivory. Norse netsuke, each face individual, each full of quirks, the Lewis Chessmen are probably the most famous chess pieces in the world. Harry played Wizard's Chess with them in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Housed at the British Museum, they are among its most visited and beloved objects.

Well done!
Revisado: 07-25-24
I loved the mystery of the chess pieces. I understand it may be reasonable today to for Margaret the Adroit’s workshop. But the sequel to this book will tell that story. Well done analysis.

The importance of the otherwise benign.

I enjoyed looking at history through the lens of a cup or a glass. Much like the history of fabric. Drinks throughout the ages are interesting and important.

Historia
The first definitive biography of Moses Maimonides, one of the most influential intellects in all of human history, illuminates his life as a philosopher, physician, and lawgiver. Recalling such bestsellers as David McCullough's John Adams and Walter Isaacson's Einstein, Maimonides is a biography on a grand scale, brilliantly explicating one man's life against the background of his time.

Concise and Erudite
Revisado: 06-24-24
The story was amazing. The beginning held lots of challenges because the information from that time is limited. From the time MM lived in Egypt the analysis was superb. The gentleman who read the book to us does not know much Hebrew. His pronunciations are weak. Just ignore this part. Despite that problem the book is well worth reading and hearing.
