Historia
In an all too imaginable future, where the privileged lead lives untouched by wars that have become a global pastime, disenfranchised young people who “volunteer” to become super soldiers are injected with nano technology that repeatedly brings them back from death. In a race against time, one such soldier and an analyst struggle to understand strange phenomena that occur after too many resurrections: glitches known as nostalgia, which even in the midst of combat can hurtle a soldier into the past. But after eight, nine, even ten resurrections lies something much worse than just glitches.

I enjoyed this right up until the end. I'm not sure how i feel about the ending. it just feels...done? I'm not sure. I loved the writing and the story is fascinating but I just don't know what I'm supposed to make of it now. I'll have to sit with it for a bit.

Historia
Blake Taylor isn't the queen of horror, but she's certainly a member of the royal court. Blake has made a career out of writing novels that make her readers want to leave the lights on at night. What Blake's fans and very few people realize is that Blake Taylor is scared of her own shadow and just about everything else. After a family intervention, a case of writer's block, and the desire to be free of the confines of fear, she leaves New York and rents a house in Cypress Glade, Louisiana.

I liked this much more than i thought i would. I thought it might be too silly or overdramatic but it was just the right amount of sweet and enjoyable.

Not great
Revisado: 02-01-24
The person that read this had a somewhat stilted delivery, where she would pause some times (as if turning the page to keep reading) but it threw off the flow. The writing was repetitive at times. The story itself was interesting but too much going on.

This is more of a list of ideas than an actual narrative. Some of the statements were really good and I'll use them later, but in general I was hoping this would be more thought provoking then it was.

Historia
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

Profound
Revisado: 05-01-23
Utterly brilliant. Wilkerson not only details a massive migration with painstaking specifity, she leaves a beautiful legacy for three very real people. I actually wept after each death, like I was losing a friend; that's how detailed this story is, you feel a very connection to every person mentioned, even those that only get a footnote. As a person with parents from the south (in the 80s, so we'll past migration time) I appreciate how Wilkerson speculates about how life would be different if these people had stayed, and how beautiful the lives of many migrants were after they finally found freedom.
This is a long read, but it's worth every page.

Does nature really make us feel better? The 3-Day Effect takes a look at the science behind why being in the wild can make us happier, healthier, and more creative. Whether it’s rafting down Utah’s Green River, hiking in Utah’s wilderness, or walking through Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, scientists are finding that the more exposure humans have to nature, the more we can benefit from reduced anxiety, enhanced creativity, and overall well-being.

I likes that it was recordings instead if just a basic narrative, and the incorporation of data really helped me understand. I'm not a big outdoorsy person but this has at least convinced me to go on more hikes.

Solid mystery
Revisado: 01-21-23
I liked this more than I thought I would. It starts out pretty basic, but I'm a sucker for a good conspiracy and the way the mystery unraveled was pretty compelling. Frankie is so so; not unlikable but also pretty one note: addict that's trying to make amends. I kind of liked that there were other things that happened in this story that made it more real: Frankie goes to meeting, has to actually work a bit, etc. Made it believable.

In this provocative and inspiring audiobook, David Richo distills 30 years of experience as a therapist to explain the underlying roots of unhappiness - and the surprising secret to finding freedom and fulfillment. There are certain facts of life that we cannot change - the unavoidable "givens" of human existence: (1) everything changes and ends, (2) things do not always go according to plan, (3) life is not always fair, (4) pain is a part of life, and (5) people are not loving and loyal all the time.

Boring
Revisado: 11-28-22
Shockingly boring. I had hoped it would be more interesting but I think the way the narrator spoke was so droning. I kept zoning out and when I zoned back in all I heard was a lot of religious talk. Zoned clean back out, but I stayed with the book just to see if it was worth it. It was not.
