Stupidity of characters is astounding
Revisado: 04-05-25
I was fine with the first few books, but why none of the characters felt like it was necessary to grab additional ammunition for the weapons, was beyond me. Guns are treated like disposable weapons, discarded after the bullets run out. The cop was a complete idiot. Always making the wrong decision. Of course all of this can be blamed on the author.

Historia
The frontiersmen were a remarkable breed of men. They were often rough and illiterate, sometimes brutal and vicious, often seeking an escape in the wilderness of mid-America from crimes committed back east. In the beautiful but deadly country which would one day come to be known as West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, more often than not they left their bones to bleach beside forest paths or on the banks of the Ohio River.

Fact is in this case way better than fiction.
Revisado: 02-05-25
Never have I been more enthralled by the story of one man more than the one of Simon Kenton. Amazing how brutal those early American days were for all involved. The story of the different native chiefs were equally mesmerizing. The narrator was brilliant and the authors words were perfectly spoken. Every student should read or listen to the book.
It gives a much clearer account of what really happened in the early days of the American story. One can’t help but have pity on all the honorable tribes that were destroyed by the whites. The early government and the early settlers showed no respect for the keepers of the lands. They, and all of us who came after, have destroyed the natural resources, the animals that thrived here and the beauty of this once beautiful place we call America. Some day soon, we will be wiped off the country by a great catastrophe bigger than the one Tecumpseh accurately predicted. Maybe that great chief and good old Simon will be reborn to start all over again working as brothers after the lands have healed.

Why would you change the narrator now!
Revisado: 10-02-24
I'm not sure why the author would suddenly choose to pick a different narrator for this book after five novels using the same person to do the narrating? It was a horrible way to end this series, which I loved overall. I found myself wanting to walk away from this book, not even caring how it ended.

Scarily Phophetic
Revisado: 07-12-24
This book was an extremely prophetic acount of events that would actually happen to us all three years later. Let us all hope that other books in this series don't come true with the same scary prophecy and realism that this book did. I couldn't help but wonder if the author wasn't best friends with somebody at the CDC, WHO or NIH who warned him that this was going to happen.

Outstanding!

I loved everything about this series. It was well written. And the narrator did a fabulous job of making you believe that you were listening to the character, which is not an easy thing to do.

Boring
Revisado: 05-22-24
I wanted to like the series, but it never got going. It doesnt matter which character is narrating, I always found myself thinking, "It's gotta get good now". We'll, after 6 1/2 books into the series, I'm done. So sick of Charlie the unrealistic goody goody, who, even though she was raised by preppers, never seems to grasp how bad society would be if the power went away for weeks or months. Same goes for Ruby. There is zero chance her house doesnt get ransacked within days of the event in real life. The author's unwillingness to call it what it is and have the characters realize the power isn't coming back on became ridiculous. Even Havier, who is in the national guard and has a ham radio, is clueless about what happened? His inability to understand the seriousness of their situation and need for getting food and water is ridiculous. They had no food left days before Javier was shot and yet days after, shes going to work in the hospital. Where is she getting food and water? That combined with way overblown boring dialogue made the series unbearable. Even when the militia went against the peppers, we get nothing about it. Instead, we hear boring exchanges between Charlie and Harper. The hospital has zero supplies and we're led to believe that the caring Harper and eager Charlie are going to the hospital to work on the wounded of the militia that shot Javier and all but kicked Charlie out of town? Meanwhile, Charlie gives two shits about her parents, that she knows were in the same fire fight? I kept waiting for the author to get it right, but he never did.

Ridiculous story
Revisado: 11-29-23
I really wanted to like this story, but I found the characters completely unbelievable, and their behavior unrealistic. I would have stayed with it until the "terrorists " brutally killed and raped the family with no terror or fear from any who saw them. The relationship with Madison was equally ridiculous, and the conversations between Kobe and Cloe were stupid. Other than a few good survival suggestions, it was not worth the effort. "One Second After." is a much better catastrophe story and much more realistic. The performance was equally lacking any emotion, and the voices all sounded the same.
