Great narrator, lackluster story

not in the three books I've managed to read has a single thing gone right for the protagonists in the story. it might seem like it does, but then everything goes wrong. this as a reader already makes the book hard to read, but the level of depravity in the series from child suicide to gruesome mutilation and rape makes it unbearable. it's really disappointing, because I enjoyed the world and characters. to me this is a reflection of the authors mind, and that is what really disturbs me.

It's a fantastic series, the author has done a great job of making a big bad enemy and a realistic main character and a weighty story that feels like it has real substance.
