Best author, best narrator
Revisado: 01-28-25
I loved this book. First the descriptive writing pulled me right into the scene. This author has a way of describing the most common situations, that they become funny, fascinating and entertaining. His command of language as well as use of era appropriate words is amazing. I fell in love with the main characters. So much reminded me of visiting my grandparents even though I live in the USA. This is not an action packed thriller. its about a community well worth spending the time getting to know.

Science fiction as meant to be
Revisado: 01-15-25
To me the best sci to is about humans, alien. species and exploration. This author has created a universe where humans and aliens all interact with unexpected consequences. What is is normal and expected behavior, even necessary for survival, may be impossible to understand and detrimental to other aliens. This book has an excellent plot that slowly exposes all of the above. The narration is great and the characters likeable. The world building is fascinating. Highly recommend listening to or reading this book.

Historia
After thwarting a space station disaster and planetary destruction, the Ambit crew thought turning Isaiah Drestyn over to the Union would be the end of their troubles. Turns out, it’s only the start. Drestyn is a walking encyclopedia of dirty secrets, and everyone wants a piece of him—the Trust, the Union, even the Guild. Someone wants him bad enough to kill, and with the life of one of their own on the line, the Ambit crew must jail-break the very man they helped capture and expose some of the secrets he’s been keeping before it’s too late.

Same thoughts I had when reviewing the first book. But even better as 2 new wonderful characters are brought in to the story. Great narration as before. The voices of each character fit each personality perfectly and are very distinct. Plot was fabulous, intense, and a fitting conclusion. Still room for more books in this series. I am hopeful!

Somewhere just off the interstate, in the heart of the American Midwest, there's a quaint, quirky town where the stars in the sky circle a hypnotic void...where magnetic fields play havoc with time and perception...where metallic rain and plasma rivers and tentacles in the plumbing are simply part of the unsettling charm.

There are only three real powers in the Spiral: the corporate power of the Trust versus the Union's labor's leverage. Between them the Guild tries to keep everyone's hands above the table. It ain't easy. Branded a Guild deserter, Jal "accidentally" lands a ride on a Guild ship. Helmed by an AI, with a ship's engineer/medic who doesn't see much of a difference between the two jobs, and a "don't make me shoot you" XO, the Guild crew of the Ambit is a little . . . different.

Science fiction at its best
Revisado: 01-08-25
Wonderful narration with main characters voices perfect. One of the best sci-fi books I've listened to in a long time. So many are just conflict, Galactic wars, etc, with characters very poorly developed. Fighting, death and hero's who are indestructible. This author presents the full range of the true cost of conflict. A world isn't just lost and hero just moves on to the next battle. Here the physical and emotional costs to the main characters are slowly developed, and unfolded.I feel like I have gotten to know real people who are extraordinary . I hope there is a sequel as I am not ready to say goodbye. Also, I feel there a lot more to explore in this creatively imagined and crafted future of humanity.

Raised in the wilderness by her late great-uncle, Vida is a young woman with an almost preternatural affinity for nature, especially for the wolves that also call the forested mountains home. Formed by hard experience, by love and loss, and by the prophecies of a fortuneteller, Vida just wants peace. If only nearby Kettleton County didn’t cast such a dark shadow.

Paranormal with ecological concerns, Terrific audio book.
Revisado: 10-26-24
Great choice of narrator for this book. Excellent narration. I love Koontz's books. This ranks in my favourite top few. I enjoyed his vivid, concise writing ane the intense fast moving story. The fortune teller and her predictions are wonderfully woven throughout the book. All the characters, including the animals, are well developed and intriguing. The paranormal aspects are very suble at first, adding another layer of intrigue. I learned about some issues related to ecological concerns that will stick with me for a long time. Koontz presents these issues in a such an unique way that will stick with me for a longtimee. Joints is a master story teller. I highly recommend this audo book.

Outside Los Angeles, a driver pulls up to find a young woman sitting on a large black box. She offers him $200,000 cash to transport her and that box across the country, to Washington, DC. But there are rules: He cannot look inside the box. He cannot ask questions. He cannot tell anyone. They must leave immediately. He must leave all trackable devices behind. As these eccentric misfits hit the road, rumors spread on social media that the box is part of a carefully orchestrated terror attack intended to plunge the USA into civil war.

Entertaining, funny, thought provoking
Revisado: 10-20-24
I loved this book, one of the best I've listened to this year. Wonderful narrator who brought each character to life and provided such an array of emotion to his narration. I don't want to spoil the story, but will will say that one strong theme to me is "don't make assumptions about anthing., be careful about making vallue judgements." Also this author clearly has a mind that is a bit tilted a bit off center. There are so many scenes and character thoughts and betrayals that are so insanely funny because they are just so unexpectedly absurd. The exploration of the rapid explosion of rumors and consequences on social media is taken the extreme bringing much amusemen to me, as well as much discomfort and contemplation. This book kept me trying to guess what was in box. Remember to not to make assumptions about anything. Finally hought is that the title is part of the fun, that meant much more to me as I listened.

Historia
In The Lonely Polygamist, Udall pens a tragicomic tale starring Golden Richards - who despite having four wives and 28 children, hasn’t quite found fulfillment in life. Like other men in the midst of a mid-life crisis, Golden feels as though he’s drowning. His wives squabble amongst themselves, and he hardly has time for all his children - least of all the 11-year-old who’s taken a keen interest in explosives.

Wonderful book and narrator
Revisado: 04-14-24
First, love this narrator who I first discovered listening to the Thomas series. His range in creating different voices is amazing in this book. The author has woven together the back stories of the characters skillfully. I loved certain characters from the beginning and loved them almost all by the end. Rusty was my favorite and I think will live my heart forever. I did dislike some of the adults at times for allowing the children to bully and mistreat each other. This book was very sad in places, but so funny in others. Again loved Rusty and his attempts to get any attention.
The author wrote a book that is so fascinating that I had a hard time turning off. By the way it was clear to me that the church and beliefs were not Mormon. But religious beliefs aside, the book is about how families must work hard to succeed. Each member brings their different backgrounds, that have a role in shaping who they are, their expectations and needs, into a complex relationship. The family in this book has problems magnified by practicing the principle or polygamy. There is no happy complete resolution of all their problems as in so many books. But this so much more believable. I would love a sequel to see what happens next. The ending left me wondering what mess the father has now started in a family that still has much to work on.
I highly recommend this book. The best I have listened to in a long time.

Thats the best i can do. I not sure i can remember a book that tied up all the loose threads seemingly with one hour to go, and then completely surprised me in the best way with a shocking, but so fitting conclusion. I' m still stunned and will be thinking about this book for some time. In so many ways a dark book, but the ending left such a sense of goodness and hope. The best feelings one can hope for when leaving a great narration of a great book. Suzanne

Enjoyed the book and liked how the main character struggled with interpersonal relationship, but began to appreciate interaction with others and began to care about others well being. ?high functioning autism the intent of the author. Loved her only friend who was quite the character. All the villagers were likable/lovable. I want to move there! Then were all the fey. Really fun watching all play out.
