Not your typical Berenson
Revisado: 05-12-24
This book can't decide if it's a kidnapping thriller or a soap opera. I quit halfway through because of the uncharacteristic (for Berenson) vulgarity. Far too many f-bombs for my taste.

1992. All across the United States respectable, upstanding citizens are showing up dead. These deaths could be accidents, and they don’t appear to be connected—until a fatal fall from a high-floor window attracts some unexpected attention. That attention comes from the secretary of defense. All of a sudden he wants an interagency task force to investigate. And he wants Jack Reacher as the army’s representative. If Reacher gets a result, great. If not, he’s a convenient fall guy.

Narrator is overdramatic
Revisado: 01-22-24
Usually Scott Brick is excellent, but in this book he seems to be unable to read a sentence without becoming overly dramatic. It is so distracting that I almost stopped listening.

A very good Gresham novel.
Revisado: 01-10-24
This is one of Grisham's better novels, in my opinion, and I have read them all. As an attorney, I especially like Grisham's realistic dealings with the practice of law and legal issues. SPOILER ALERT: as faithful Gresham readers know, endings are not his strong suit. The ending in this book gets a B, because there is no real payback to the bad guys, not even partial, nor is there any recovery of the monies paid, although there is the hint of a lawsuit against the insurance company. The biggest weakness is the plot hole which raises the possibility that the Chicago mob, villains in " The Firm," were somehow responsible, and although this possibility is raised, there is no resolution of this issue, which makes one wonder why it was raised to begin with. Nevertheless, Grisham is a master story teller and writer, and I will continue to read every book he writes.

With President Anthony Cook convinced that Mitch Rapp poses a mortal threat to him, CIA Director Irene Kennedy is forced to construct a truce between the two men. The terms are simple: Rapp agrees to leave the country and stay in plain sight for as long as Cook controls the White House. In exchange, the administration agrees not to make any moves against him. This fragile détente holds until Cook’s power-hungry security adviser convinces him that Rapp has no intention of honoring their agreement. To put him on the defensive, they leak the identity of his partner, Claudia Gould.

As good as any of the original Vince Flynn novels. Never boring, always interesting and exciting. And of course George Guidall is the gold standard for narration.

Annoying music made it unlistenable
Revisado: 09-05-22
OMG. Somebody decided to ruin a good performance and good story by playing Tinkerbell music in the background to everything anyone said. I tried listening for a while, and it sounded like a good story and good performance, but the cartoonish music was so distracting, that I am returning the book.

Historia
Return to America’s most beloved fictional hometown! Lake Wobegon is having a boom year thanks to millennial entrepreneurship—AuntMildred’s.com Gourmet Meatloaf, for example, or Universal Fire, makers of artisanal firewood seasoned with sea salt. Meanwhile, the author flies in to give eulogies at the funerals of five classmates, including a couple whom he disliked, and he finds a wave of narcissism crashing on the rocks of Lutheran stoicism.

Another great book by Garrison Keillor
Revisado: 04-26-22
Keillor returns to Lake Wobegon and finds it Woke and up-to-date, with a lot of his friends dead or dying. As always, his sense of humor is magnificent and the book is highly entertaining. It's often hard to tell what is autobiographical and what is pure fiction but that makes it all the more fun.

Fascinating and well written
Revisado: 02-03-22
The author has an obvious bias, which he does not pretend to hide, but which nevertheless does not interfere with his presentation of numerous facts, and an excellent writing style. Further, he goes out of his way to present the Sackler family side of the story. This was a very entertaining and informative read. The narration is excellent.

Revisado: 01-20-22
I have read and enjoyed every book Grisham has written. I have stuck with Gresham even when he was unable to finish a story, which has happened frequently. However, I am at a loss to explain or understand this one. Here, Gresham has decided to write a mystery, and it just isn't very interesting.

The writing is extremely proficient and funny, but then we all knew that Mel Brooks is a great writer. The narration is amazing, but then again we all knew that Mel Brooks was a great actor. I read a lot of books about and by entertainers, and this is the best, absolutely captivating from start to finish.

Historia
World War II endures in the popular imagination as a heroic struggle between good and evil, with villainous Hitler driving its events. But Hitler was not in power when the conflict erupted in Asia. His armies did not fight in multiple theaters, his empire did not span the Eurasian continent, and he did not inherit any of the spoils of war. That central role belonged to Joseph Stalin. Drawing on ambitious new research in Soviet, European, and US archives, Stalin’s War revolutionizes our understanding of this global conflict by moving its epicenter to the east.

Revisado: 12-24-21
The narration is excellent, the content is amazing. everything backed up with facts. Fascinating book, never boring. In all of my 77 years, I had never realized how incredibly obsequious Roosevelt was to Stalin, and how much the United States gave to the Soviet Union even to the cost of its own armies and navies and citizens.
