I love this series, but this latest book feels like it was either rushed or maybe cobbled together from unpublished short stories. I was very disappointed. I hope she hasn't lost interest in Mercy. It is my favorite series and my favorite reader.

reads more like a Robyn Carr book than Feehan.

the pasing was consistent but so slow. Too many characters introduced at once, and not enough angst. I enjoy these books when I seek them out, but I was expecting a Christine Feehan book.

The writing was good, though a little cliche with the princess and the gruff stable hand initial animosity, but the narration was frustrating. She had a whispery voice, which would be nice if I wanted hypnotherapy, but it wasn't good for a novel. Also, she seemed to think that Cajun is the only Southern accent. The worst part, however, was that she can't pronounce the words! Every 7-10 minutes, she'd totally mispronounce a word and by the time my eyes finished rolling, I'd missed other events of import. It's a shame they didn't get a better reader.

The reader sounded like a computer generated voice. The inflections were unnatural and there was no emotional performance. The only time it sounded like a real person was when the male voice read female dialogue.

This was so bad that I really couldn't continue listening. I stopped after only a few chapters, but the story was going well, if a little predictably.

Are the guys using ghost writers? They used "erudition" three times in the first 2 chapters, and at least 2 of these seemed to be used incorrectly! then again, it could be the reader who doesn't seem to understand Pendergast at all. Even worse is his rendition of Constance! She sounds like a Southern old man, not a 1920s New York City lady (or guttersnipe) at all. Also, upon first meeting Pendergast, the reader said Pendergast had a 'scultpured' face, when I'm willing to bet money they WROTE "sepulcural." I haven't finished the book yet... I don't know if I will. I really don't like the reader, and the writing is not up to par. Also, I hate Coldmoon. Bring back Vinnie!

I'm enjoying this podcast, because the ladies seem to be good friends having a good time chatting about crimes and mysteries that interest them. I admit I'm a bit harsh sometimes, but Ashley's accent is frustrating, because her "long I" sounds are just like "short o" sounds; however, she's so enthusiastic and fun I can let it slide. ;) Were this an audiobook, I'd have returned it, but as a podcast, it works.

Carry on ladies! You're both wonderful!

A good ghost story, but it isn't a romance. A romance must have a happy ending - it is actually REQUIRED for the genre. This was a gripping story, and I was interested... right up until I realized where it was going.

It was moderate at first, but then there were more and more Christian references and prayers. Also, the crime procedures weren't by any book I've ever heard of and my undergraduate degree was in criminal justice. But it was the intrusive religious comments that kept me from finishing it.

The writer puts too much of her leftist politics in where they aren't needed. The premise was supposed to be about human trafficking, but her frequent asides to discuss environmental issues eventually had me sending the book back. My other issue was that for some reason, she had the male lead force the female lead through his condensed version of special ops training. They had less than a week. She wasn't going to run a three minute mile or manage 100 push ups. At best, he would have made her so sore she could barely move by the time action is needed. I hardly ever write reviews, and even fewer negative ones, but this really annoyed me.

Scott Brick is masquerading as Dick Hill :(

I enjoyed the story, but I really prefer Dick Hill's narration of Reacher. Even though Scott Brick is an excellent reader, the book was far less enjoyable without the familiar voice and tone. Dick Hill has a very American "every man" sound, where Scott Brick is better for a sophisticated protagonist. ...anyway, just my two cents.
