Does an editor for a famous author just abdicate all literary standards? Where was the publishing house when this weak, pathetic, trite manuscript came through the door?

A Junior High School English teacher would have given it a D. And, to think that I wasted a credit on it!!!

Another great read…I am on a roll!

This book is the autobiography of middle-class children who are abused, but somehow overcome their circumstances and make an interesting and successful life.

Similar in theme to “The Glass Castle”, the children fell into poverty and yet developed good values and high standards. Where does this inner strength come from?

The animal stories are delightful, funny, and demonstrate the resourcefulness of this group of people who just could not turn away a homeless animal.

The narration was light, playful and perfect for the story!

A fun read.

This is not a story like Nicole Kidman going to Africa.

These 2 young, idealistic scientists, fresh out of college and newly married, set out to the Kalahari to track the habits and migration of African wild animals.

Living the most basic life in a lean-to tent on a game reserve in an isolated and totally remote desert, their story of ingenuity and survival is fascinating. The animal stories are heartfelt and illuminating and very meaningful to the survival of the species.

I learned a great deal, all the while that I was reading their riveting stories.

An interesting note: The woman who existed for 23 years in the bush, is the real-life author of “Where the Crawdads Sing! Who knew??

In the epilogue of this book, Kim Richardson describes the historical truths behind the Book woman’s novels. She also discloses her own history living in such extreme poverty, and then in a cruel orphanage. Her biography “The Unbreakable Child” is free for Kindle Unlimited, and will be my next read.

It always amazes me and I am inspired by people who somehow overcome such terrible obstacles to a successful life.
An enjoyable and meaningful book!

I’ve read every one of Trigiani’s books (on Audible) and really liked them. However, this one is just boring. Somehow, the characters are not charming and they describe in great detail the contents of a nurse’s apron, or a a repaired shoe. To me, the mundane does not add color to the characters nor flesh out the story line. Descriptions and ambience are important but seem to just be there to fill up the space. There may have been a plot developing but after an hour, I couldn’t take it any more. Sorry about that!

First of all, I must admit that I would love hearing George Guidall read anything...maybe, even the phone book. When he reads a book, the listener can just settle in and enjoy the yarn he is about to spin.

But, this is a good yarn about the settlers in the midwest, and the life and hardships they experience on the Prairie and cattle ranches. Good people; hard work; joys and sorrows. The characters were well-drawn and credible. I hope that there will be a sequel to follow up on the family members.

The main character Chi-Chi started out to be so independent and accomplished. But, she was worn down into a shell of a woman by a no-good, unfaithful, lying husband. The character development just never rang true to me.

Over the weekend, I decided to listen to a biography: “Chosen by a Horse.” Well! It turned out to be an exceptional listen. Surprisingly interesting information about horses, but the real life history of the author is very compelling. She refers often to the life-changing and life-long effect of losing her mother at the age of 5, and how it affected her throughout her life in unexpected ways. The author has a good sense of humor and interesting observations on life and relationships, and it is a book that I will remember. It is very touching and as I listened, I shed a few tears, as well as smiles. I love a book that makes me reflect on people and life situations but is also very enjoyable to listen to. I’m sorry that it is over, and I think that there is a follow-up book that I will download next.

The book just didn't hold my interest. Very slow in the beginning, and since I have liked many books by this author, I kept going. Finally, at half-way, I gave up.

First of all, Simon Vance did an amazing job of narrating the various characters! It was an interesting tale of kidnapping, intrigue and psychological thriller. The author is able to describe the scenes so well that I could just visualize the setting and the characters. I was sorry to see it end.
