Best book I have read in years!
Revisado: 04-14-18
I'll not soon forget Eleanor Oliphant. In fact I may just listen to the whole thing again. This is a masterful book. On the one hand I laughed out loud many many times and on the other there is gut-wrenching sadness. Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine and that is a Triumph.

Historia
In spite of being ejected from Miss Bodycote's Female Academy in Canada, 12-year-old Flavia de Luce is excited to be sailing home to England. But instead of a joyous homecoming, she is greeted on the docks with unfortunate news: Her father has fallen ill, and a hospital visit will have to wait while he rests. But with Flavia's blasted sisters and insufferable cousin underfoot, Buckshaw now seems both too empty - and not empty enough.

Don't Know What all the Fuss is About
Revisado: 10-11-16
I listened to the whole book, but didn't enjoy it. Half way through, I still held onto the belief that it would get better. I cannot figure out why this is such a well-received and praised book. I thought it was very dull and dragged on and on with so many repetitive moments. There were too many characters to keep straight and they were underdeveloped. I will not be reading books 2-4.

If there’s anything they can count on, it’s each other. Clementine and Erika are each other’s oldest friends. A single look between them can convey an entire conversation. But theirs is a complicated relationship, so when Erika mentions a last minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Tiffany and Vid, Clementine and Sam don’t hesitate.

Not a False Note From Author or Narrator
Revisado: 08-14-16
Another great one from Liane Moriarty! Hooked right from the beginning. Where usually I just listen in my car, I listened at home doing laundry, dishes and whatever. Carried my phone from room to room. Wonderful characters with depth and humor and heart. Never did I find myself questioning a move or word from anyone. It all rings true.
Fabulous story. Can't wait til her next one.

I Must Be a Glutton for Punishment
Revisado: 07-27-16
I have read all of the books in this series. I enjoyed the first ones and later kept reading even when I was getting frustrated with some of the ridiculous situations. Now it has become unbearable. So many things bug me! I will go into a few of them.
There are spoilers here but who the hell cares, really?
Hannah and her sisters and mom are such know-it-alls. There are so many "lessons" in these books and the author seems to think we were born yesterday. How bell peppers get their color. How a smart phone works. The type of soil hydrangeas need. How to make a pork chop. What sweet lemonade is. And on and on.,..and on. It's so obvious that the author wants us to know how clever she is and how much trivial knowledge she has. It's insufferable! Even Michelle says, "I think I could have lived my whole life without knowing the history of the bell pepper." This also applies to this reader, Michelle.
Hannah says, "Maybe I should get a phone that can send and receive text messages." You mean a smartphone, Hannah? You own your own business and are smarter than cops but you still don't own a smartphone?
Tracy, the child genius, Enough said.
Hannah in a "pantsuit" and maybe hose. (Not sure if she wore hose in this one.) lol How old is she? And she still has not gotten a computer? Her recipes are not on a computer? They're all hand-written? SO unbelievable.
Moishe. How many times do we have to hear about how Moishe and Cuddles run around the table and how clever they are that we have to put our feet up and hold onto our dishes? Ad nauseum. And the last time they did it, everyone was laughing so hard they couldn't catch their breath! Or wait, maybe that was when Lonnie was "questioning" Moishe as a suspect. GAG. NOT funny.
Ross getting into a pi**ing contest with Norman because his tickets may not have been as expensive as the other ones Hannah got.
EVERYONE eats cookies and sweet all day long! They must all be 400 lbs.
So much time spent on on cooking pork chops and then Hannah and Tracy making candy in the kitchen! We don't need to hear every step. Especially when the chapter ends with the exact same recipe. And then later that day, when Norman, MIke AND Ross are all at the table together at Hannah's house, we hear nothing except how well the party went. Completely glossed over. THIS was what we were waiting for! Why didn't we hear Ross stick up for Hannah when Mike was giving her a bad time? Why didn't Ross get to hear Norman talk about how much he loved Hannah? So many hints at this and then it went undone. And so unbelievable that Mike and Norman didn't catch on that Hannah and Ross were getting serious? Too unbelievable.
The fact that they were all at that dinner party at all! Hannah invited Ross and never told him that the "whole gang" was going to be there. Ridiculous.
When Hannah and Ross kissed and hugged after he saved her, Mike didn't get suspicious? Too unbelievable.
Didn't we hear a similar "cat burglar" scenario in another book from this series? I'm quite sure we did.
Doc had Ross be his best man? Tracy calls Ross "Uncle Ross" and hugs him? HUH? Time warp.
Michelle is STILL in college and 21? And yet Bethie is now nearly talking and Tracy is in school?
The murderer being introduced in the last few pages? What a cop out!!
The narrator is not suited for this book. Hannah is a young woman and the narrator sounds way too old to be a 30 year old woman. And when she does Michelle's voice it sounds like a fairy in an animated cartoon. Got on my nerves so much I hoped Michelle remained silent throughout the book.
The only thing I was SO HAPPY about is that Hannah and Ross spent some time in the hotel room! Maybe she had S--E--X!! (Please spell it out so we don't get embarrassed.) Finally we are in the 21st century! So tired of her prudish ways.

Not My Favorite Cleo Coyle
Revisado: 07-12-16
I have read all of the Village Blend books. This was not my favorite. I'm not a big fan of jazz, so I had to be patient with all the jazz talk. There was also a lot of food talk...some is fine...this just seemed to go overboard.
Around chapter 75, things started to get interesting. Before that, I was merely making do.
I'm really getting tired of the jealousy between Mike Quinn and Claire. They are grown adults in a committed relationship! I really don't they should be acting like school kids. Haven't they proven themselves to each time and again? So tired of listening to both of them whine about other suspected rivals.
Rebecca Gibel is not my favorite narrator. She tends to the dramatic and is a bit too earnest. I wish she would lighten up a little. I also hate how she ends some of her statements with a questioning tone when there is no question involved.

A Bridge Between Two Longer Novels
Revisado: 05-26-16
What did you love best about The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches?
Continuing on with loved characters. Seeing Flavia in action again. The emotion in the sisters.
What did you like best about this story?
I Like the twist about the future. Think it's going to be a good plan.
What does Jayne Entwistle bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She is remarkable! Love her nuances; you can almost see the twinkle in her eye.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Daphne's eulogy brought tears to my eyes.
Any additional comments?
This book seemed quite a bit shorter than most. I was surprised when it ended. But it was the prefect bridge between the past and the future of Flavia.

Told in a myriad of voices - at last!
Revisado: 02-26-16
Would you consider the audio edition of The Truth According to Us to be better than the print version?
I personally loved all the voices - it gave the story a richness - but I'm sure the print version is also great. I hope audible continues to use multiple voices. One person often cannot carry the load of all the characters.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Toss up between Willa and Jottie. Or maybe Emmett! Willa is pure and smart and lovely. Jottie is hilarious and loving and someone you might want to call your friend.
Any additional comments?
I had to sit with the ending fort a while before I agreed with it. Of course it had to be that way...but I wish things had turned out differently. I was disappointed there was no mention of Layla/Felix/Emmett in the epilogue. I think how that relationship was handled needed to be addressed.
