Unforgettable
Revisado: 04-06-25
As an avid reader there’s really only 1 or 2 books annually that stand out and leave a lasting impression. This is one of those books.
I felt swept up in the circumstances of the story, like I was living in a parallel Universe while I listened. The story was perfectly narrated which is half the battle when it comes to audiobooks.
I’m thankful to have come across this book and to have learned a bit of history because of it.❤️

Historia
Cate Kay knows how to craft a story. As the creator of a bestselling book trilogy that struck box office gold as a film series, she’s one of the most successful authors of her generation. The thing is, Cate Kay doesn’t really exist. She’s never attended author events or granted any interviews. Her real identity had been a closely guarded secret, until now.

Compelling & immersive like a private “tell-all” one-on-one conversation
Revisado: 01-13-25
I listen to so many audiobooks that now I hunt for what I call the “singular voice” type of stories where the characters dialogue feels like they are talking directly with you - as if your Friend is pulling you aside from a crowded party to tell you something profound, compelling, and intimately private. The moment I started listening to this book I knew the writer was “not like the rest”. I love how Fagan describes even the character’s feelings in this book - using a group of words never assembled before (in my experience) to describe sentiments of the characters in certain situations. This book lowered my blood pressure and I was in an all-encompassing bubble through each character and the events of the book. Thank you for the letting me drift away and fully swim inside your words & this story, Ms. Fagan!!

I found this book surprisingly entertaining. You must be able to suspend disbelief and surrender to this story, which is made easier by the excellent narration. I was pleasantly surprised!!

But now in his eighties, Edward’s action-packed glory days are long behind him. Historia
A gifted new suspense writer makes her sizzling debut with this serpentine tale exploring all the ways in which men enact violence on women, how women try to reclaim their own sense of self, and the lingering effects on their children’s lives. Filled with shocking twists and turns, this is a book that both asks what it means for a woman to be in control of her life while also highlighting the impact of small daily violences upon women, and the connection between physical and psychological harm.

Good, but drawn out with too many “inside thoughts” from the characters!
Revisado: 09-30-24
Holy moly! The story itself IS good. But it felt like half of the book is a never-ending hamster wheel of the characters neurotic overthinking, second guessing, mental panic, etc. I was conflicted because I wanted to know what happens next & how the book ends, but I had to stop and take breaks from this book or else I felt trapped in the dizzying whirlwind of the thoughts and emotions of the main character. It’s like, please dear Author, make things actually keep happening in the book… like, write that the character is driving her car to an ice cream shop so I can take a reprieve thinking about the ice cream flavor the character chose - all while you’re drowning my mental psyche with 45 minutes straight of the character’s neurotic thoughts….sigh. As my Hispanic Mother would say: Aye Yaye Yaye!!
Smh.

I started listening to this book when life was busy and hectic. There is a calm rhythm to this book that drew me in, and gave me a visceral sense of its setting and flow. It isn’t a big thriller, but it’s still really good and so many aspects of it are relatable from the “all-aspects-human” perspective. This was really good and now I have to find another good book to listen to. Wish me luck!

Got me through a migraine!
Revisado: 04-17-24
This audiobook sat in my library for awhile, but I randomly started playing it when I had a migraine, as I scrolled through my audiobook library playing the first few seconds of several of my “Not Stared” books to see if I could find a Narrators voice who could give me that ‘calm’ amidst my migraine pain anxiety so that I could divert my focus away from my head pain. Well, I started playing this audiobook and didn’t stop because of how soothing the narrators voices were! At first I didn’t even care about the storyline, just let me focus away from pain. But wow! I was so pleasantly surprised at this book. In the first few hours it feels a bit dragged out, and then things start happening and I was absolutely caught off guard from the events in this book. I absolutely absorbed it; clung onto it for dear life to endure my 3-day migraine. It kept me company & fully engaged & captivated during the sleepless nights of my 3-day migraine and that’s priceless to me!

A story that stays with you
Revisado: 03-24-24
This book was really really good. There’s a back story to this storyline that was even more interesting than the already interesting main storyline. The back story is interweaved well within the present storyline and I looked forward to hearing all of it!! Good twists I didn’t see coming, and this story just sticks with me because of the fact that there are lots of people out there in the world who have gone through the same ordeal as that of the backstory of the main character.. worth the credit for sure!!

This was just okay... Narration good.
Revisado: 12-16-23
This is one of those books where the journey itself is better (at a base level of captivation) then the actual ending. It was just okay. It kept my interest (which is all I ask for when I escape into my audiobooks books) but keeping track of the characters when a new chapter started was difficult. It would be great if each Chapter was titled with the name of the Character that was speaking. I had to rewind chapters often.
