I was looking for an indulgent Christmas read but just could handle this. It is missing the wonderfully festive and rich descriptions of a cute little Christmas town (it has a sign that plays music, but what else?!) or charming Christmas characters (everyone is pretty flat). Plus the whole thing is super sexist, the women do women's work while the men do men's work and resist the urge to "get handsy" which seems to be a constant theme; handsy relatives, handsy bosses, gross! (Also, potentially triggering to someone who was just looking for a light and pleasant read without trivializing sexual harassment and assault). Even the chocolate that the main character makes isn't described in a way that is exciting, and I was worried listening to a book about a chocolatier would make me crave chocolate (it doesn't). The writing is really basic and repetitive (the same phrases are literally repeated over and over). There are whole sections where important details are missing, then other details that are just boring. I could handle predictable, in fact that is what I was going for, but this was just really low quality.
