Mostly just smut
Revisado: 02-02-25
I expected more out of this book and that's my fault. I really wanted to like it especially because it's a Vietnamese author but MAN it's got a lot of really unnecessary overdetailed smut. It's not compelling, intriguing, or even arousing smut - it's just an awkward retelling like listening to an annoying cousin say every gross thing she's ever done to a guy. I suspect it's the narrator but the protagonist is also incredibly annoying to listen to. Tried to force myself to finish the book and I couldn't do it. I deleted it.

Historia
Serafine St. Romain doesn’t need her psychic powers to know she’s no longer in Tyler Leshuski’s good graces. True, she did tear him to pieces when he asked her out, accusing him of being shallow and selfish. Despite the energy crackling between them, the gorgeous sports writer is a no-strings, no-kids kind of guy. And Serafine, raised in the foster system, intends to be a foster parent herself. She won’t compromise that dream, even for a man as annoyingly appealing as Tyler.

My what a husky masculine voice she has lol
Revisado: 01-24-25
It's a great story. I loved it and listened to it the whole way through. But overcoming that deep husky male voice attempt to play a mysterious stunning southern woman is a hard obstacle to climb through the entire read. Its a heavy distraction from the book but I applaud the effort. Even though the result was a bit rough.

I didn't know
Revisado: 12-05-23
I know I should have known, it was public knowledge. But I had no idea of the trials and tribulations this man went through. He mentions time and time again that the fame and fortune did nothing to ease those battles. I am so glad he found his way and his peace, and in the end was allowed to pass on to a better place. Poor guy.

Historia
Journalist Simone Stolzoff traces how work has come to dominate Americans’ lives—and why we find it so difficult to let go. Based on groundbreaking reporting and interviews with Michelin star chefs, Wall Street bankers, overwhelmed teachers and other workers across the American economy, Stolzoff exposes what we lose when we expect work to be more than a job. Rather than treat work as a calling or a dream, he asks what it would take to reframe work as a part of life rather than the entirety of our lives. What does it mean for a job to be good enough?

Should be an essential read for all Americans
Revisado: 09-04-23
Before you even try the “no one wants to work these days” rhetoric, know that I am the exact demographic he is discussing. 100% full blown, high performing, burned out, tech workaholic. He is completely accurate that the obsessive “my economic productivity IS my worth epidemic” is definitely American and a narrative pushed by billionaires and politicians for their own gain at the detriment of the family unit. This should be a must read for all people, especially Americans. It doesn’t tell you to not work, it just reminds you that you are a human outside of your work title and the amount of money you make. If the idea of what I just said causes you to pull back, you need this book more than anyone else. Trust me, I was that person too and found my way out the hard way.

Great overall, gets a little advertisy
Revisado: 09-04-23
Overall provides great theoretical help on optimizing and letting go of lesser value tasks. Only critique is that the portion on virtual assistants starts to sound like an ad for his own virtual assistant business.

Historia
From breakout stand-up comedian Iliza Shlesinger comes a subversively funny collection of essays and observations on a confident woman's approach to friendship, singlehood, and relationships. "Girl Logic" is Iliza's term for the way women obsess over details and situations that men don't necessarily even notice. She describes it as a characteristically female way of thinking that appears to be contradictory and circuitous but is actually a complicated and highly evolved way of looking at the world.

Required reading for all women, young and old
Revisado: 12-16-22
I hope one day the words and "new rules" Abby lists here can become required reading for our youth. It would create a generational shift in the perspectives of sexism, leadership, teamwork, and egocentrism; the empathy it would create for those fighting loss of identity or even imposter syndrome would open a dialogue of growth versus a dialogue of shame.
Great book. Superbly fast read.

Revisado: 09-08-22
What a book, masterfully told. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a better book and that’s not something I type lightly.
Her life is so full of trauma, pain, passion, inspiration, defiance, strength, incredible humility, introspection, so much beauty. My god. Within 15mins I was near tears and that feeling ebbed and flowed through the entire length of this book. Incredible.
