Historia
The Shunned House is a horror fiction novelette by American author H.P. Lovecraft, written on October 16–19, 1924. It was first published in the October 1937 issue of Weird Tales. For many years, the narrator and his uncle, Dr. Elihu Whipple, have nurtured a fascination with an old abandoned house on Benefit Street. Dr. Whipple has made extensive records tracking the mysterious, yet apparently coincidental, sickness and death of many who have lived in the house for over one hundred years.

Fun Haunted House Story
Revisado: 02-17-25
Fun haunted house story. Lovecraft rights like he’s submitting an essay as opposed to straight prose. I love how he puts an extensive backstory in history, even into his short stories. Makes them that much more enjoyable. The narrator does a fantastic job!

Another Great AoS Story…
Revisado: 06-29-23
Good story. I read the few short stories about Cado that came before and was really looking forward to this one. Very enjoyable. Richard Reed, as always does a fantastic job with the narration. Looking forward to future volumes… 4 and a half stars.

Historia
A war-weary Battle Group Praxis arrives at the Knight world of Kamidar, ruled by the Iron Queen Orlah, to return the queen's slain daughter and heir, who died in Guilliman's name. In truth, the Imperium's mission here is twofold: to strip Kamidar of its resources in order to resupply the flagging armada, and to prepare the Ironhold Protectorate to become part of the defensive Anaxian Line, a crucial bulwark for the Indomitus Crusade.

John Banks gives a wonderful performance, as always. But yeah, like others have said, this is really a filler novel. Almost like a first half of a novel that hopefully will lead to a bigger payoff at a later date.

The story is told from the first-person perspective of an unnamed narrator and details his experiences with a scientist named Crawford Tillinghast. Tillinghast creates an electronic device that emits a resonance wave, which stimulates an affected person's pineal gland, thereby allowing them to perceive planes of existence outside the scope of accepted reality.

Typical Lovecraft Madness & Fun!
Revisado: 08-16-22
Fun story. Typical Lovecraft where a madman wanders too far into science "man was not ment to know." Listen to the audible version, there is some missing preamble in the stand alone short story.

Age of Sigmar Zombie Survival!!!
Revisado: 06-30-22
First Helen Keeley, as the narrator for the audiobook does a spectacular job. She has done several of the Warhammer Horror novel narrations and they have been great. No exception here. She adds a certain feel of desperation that's fits the genre well. Second, Richard Strachan really does a nice job giving a fun version of Zombie Survival that fits the AoS setting very well. Best part, the Zombie Survival is not the central theme of the novel but a fairly well done plot-driver. No more spoilers but this was a lot of fun, worth your time, and of course a set up for a sequel! Enjoy!

Who Really are the Monsters?
Revisado: 04-03-22
Really good story, if not a bit depressing. Without any spoilers it was an interesting turn on the politics of the "Age of Sigmar" between two very, I'll say conflicted, factions when there are forced to ally to deal with a third. The dynamic was fascinating. The only down side (if you want to call it that) is that no character comes out as redeemable....If you listen to the audiobook, Christopher Kent does a marvelous job as narrator. Very Warhammer! Enjoy!

Great Start to a Promising Series
Revisado: 02-15-22
Really enjoyed this. The novel has a well-done gothic feel. The author does a great job with the atmosphere of dread and the angst the characters experience. The "Hound of Portent and Mhurghast" have all the trappings of the best monsters and makes for a nice catalyst for the story. If you are listening to the narration, Helen Keeley does an excellent job at giving the characters a real feel of desperation. This is, apparently, the first in a series of 4(?) novels and I'm very much looking forward to the next in the series. if I have any criticism, it would be that the end is more of a set up for future volumes in the series-- but again, that is not necessarily a bad thing. The ending does have a nice surprise for long term Warhammer fans...4 out of 5.

Ork-y Goodness!!!
Revisado: 01-31-22
You have AdMek, Dark Mechanicus, and orks. Lots and lots of orks. A lot of fun. I'm interested in reading more from Mike Brooks and Tom Allenby does a great job narration the various Ork voices and giving them a lot of character. Highly recommend. Matter of fact GW/Black Library has had a host of excellent Xenos novels lately. Enjoy!

So Good...
Revisado: 01-31-22
So much better than the film, and I love the film. I'm reading all of the Fleming Bond books in order, and I've loved them all. This one is one of the best so it is almost frustrating that I'm about to complete the series. As good as it is alone, read previous two first, as this novel makes up the final book in the "Blofeld trilogy." Martin Jarvis does a spectacular job narrating! Enjoy!

Historia
Originally named A Tangled Skein, this is the first Sherlock Holmes story. The real strength and the unique quality of the novel lies in the introduction of Holmes and Watson to each other - and those dark early scenes when a corpse is discovered in a derelict house in southeast London. The ultimate crusader against crime and criminals, Holmes' genius is revealed here for the very first time.

Revisado: 01-24-22
After all these years I finally decided to read (or in this case, listen to) Sherlock Holmes, in order. You don't need my word for it. The Doyle stories" reputation is solid and well worth it! Having Derek Jacobi is a nice boon for the narration. He is a marvelous actor and he gives a great performance for this reading. Enjoy!
