Fascinating storyline
Revisado: 12-14-23
This fantasy series stands out among some of the recent ones I’ve listened to. The narrator is amazing, and the storyline keeps me hooked. There’s a sweetness to the story too. The protagonist has a good heart combined with a great sense of humor. The other characters are fun too and well written.

Historia
Infused with magic, shadows and starlight, the powerful godblades were believed to be lost nearly half a millennia ago, when the Godswar ended. Now, however, one has been found by the unlikeliest of wielders: Sampson Gaard, a blind but ambitious prince with something to prove. The only question is whether he controls the blade or the blade him. With an insidious evil lurking in the shadows, the answer may very well determine the fate of all Kingfall.

The first time an audio book has made me weep
Revisado: 01-17-22
The incredible writing and unmistakable voice acting of TGR come together to make an epic fantasy masterpiece. Of dozens of fantasy audiobooks I’ve listened to, this may be may now be the best I’ve ever heard. Just finished it and the tears are fresh on my face. Absolutely marvelous!

Historia
The Academy of Chaenbalu has stood against magic for centuries. Hidden from the world, acting from the shadows, it trains its students to detect and retrieve magic artifacts, which it jealously guards from the misuse of others. Because magic is dangerous: Something that heals can also harm, and a power that aids one person may destroy another. Of the academy’s many students, only the most skilled can become Avatars - warrior thieves, capable of infiltrating the most heavily guarded vaults - and only the most determined can be trusted to resist the lure of magic.

Sorrowful
Revisado: 09-18-21
The plot is interesting and a bit different than other fantasy novels I’ve read. It does focus on the usual teenage boy who has magic but is also immature. The narrator could be better at differentiating more with the various characters, but he’s not a bad narrator at all. The story left me both frustrated and wondering what will happen next.

Blays, Dante, and Gladdick are again an amazing trio fighting the bad guys. The story ended a bit abruptly, so it seems clear that there will be another book. I’m not looking forward to the wait!!!

Too short

I really enjoyed this book. Lots of funny lines and good drama. It’s tough to keep up with all the different mages though. And the book is wayyy too short. I have another week before my audible credits renew!

A little confusing but interesting
Revisado: 03-26-21
This book can be a bit confusing since it’s a mix of short stories rather than one long story. It helped that I’d watched season one of the tv show. The narrator is good, and I liked getting a better idea of the lore. I plan to read the next book in the series.

Historia
In the realm of Isodoro, just two things stand between Alliance lands and the spears and muskets of the orcish hordes: the wizards of the Order and constant infighting amongst the orcs themselves. In the Alliance capital, young Wit has just been promoted from apprentice to full wizard - and saddled with the very unglamorous task of traveling to a distant iron mine to inspect it for fraud. Worse yet, he's partnered with Wa'llach, a drunken dwarven prisoner who's killed more people than most plagues. Yet those skills are about to become very handy.

Nothing like Tolkien
Revisado: 03-05-21
The story needed more detail. Major scenes happened quickly, including fight scenes and scenes meant for character growth and connections. The lore and magic needed much more explaining as well. I just couldn’t connect enough to the story because of this. Tim Gerard Reynolds, the narrator, is probably the reason I kept listening.

Historia
Cally and Rowe have scoured the demonic wights from Narashtovik. But during the war, Cally learned he can no longer be part of the pacifist Order that raised him to be a sorcerer. The pair has traveled south, seeking the true copy of The Cycle of Arawn - the artifact Cally believes can restore proper rule to Narashtovik. There's a few problems with this plan, though. For one, nobody's seen the true copy in decades. And another, in these lands, possessing a copy of the Cycle is rewarded with a quick trip to the hangman.
