Great Interviews and Biographical Storytelling
Revisado: 02-10-25
Really am grateful that Wesley Morris, Audible and everyone involved put this together. Have been a fan of Stevie for a long time and learned so much. Am now inspired to see The Secret Life of Plants since I think that's the one album I've never heard!

Historia
The Grand Hotel is a horror novel by esteemed best-selling author Scott Kenemore ( Zombie, Ohio) that takes the reader on a thrilling ride through an interconnected series of stories narrated by the desk clerk and the residents of the hotel itself. And while it is not known whether or not the desk clerk is actually the devil incarnate, it is strange that so many visitors who come for a tour of the hotel have a way of never leaving.

Good Story Format and Reader
Revisado: 01-02-23
The format of the story was a bit like Scheherazade in that the various individual stories wove together to provide an outcome that wasn't so surprising but was somehow fulfilling. Similar great movie versions would be The Illustrated Man or Ghost Story.
I enjoyed the reader's voice acting very much and would definitely listen to other books with the same narrator.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Maybe My Favorite Stephen King in a Long While
Revisado: 11-24-22
A truly charming tale in so many ways but in the Brothers Grimm mold! Loved the "boy and his dog" premise of the story. Various fairy tale characters woven in deftly. Very little, I think, could have been left out and, despite the length, I was never bored or wished it would end sooner. I enjoy King's horror but, as with The Talisman, his fantasy writing is often better.
The reader was perfect for the story. Excellent voice for the main character but did a fine job with the others.

Yikes! Change of Reader was Jolting
Revisado: 09-01-22
These books that follow up the original Tales of the Otori series do help fill in some gaps in the story and do a nice job of showing how honor, family and culture travel into the next generation even with changes in political alliances and outside influences. On the whole, I've enjoyed the series and found the trend toward somewhat less battle and bloodshed to feel historically correct.
The one thing that really felt out of balance was the shift to only male voices to tell the story and, with this book, a reader with a completely different accent (English), way of pronouncing names and places, and doing character voices. While I was beginning to get accustomed to the reader by the end of this book, it was really jarring. I'd suggest at least doing all 3 books in this series with the same reader.

Some I'd read before but hearing them in the author's own voice was even better. Many were unfamiliar. Really like the diversity of characters and plots. Hope another anthology is coming in another 10 years or so!

Good mix of short stories
Revisado: 04-12-20
Many of these were familiar but were read a long time ago. Others were new to me. The reader seemed to have more of a love for and familiarity with some stories while others were read as if for the first time, with stilted delivery. In the whole, though, a nice sampler of the genre
