I had fun with this Cyberpunk blend.
Revisado: 12-31-23
As usual with C.T. Phipps's books, I had fun. Always a pleasure to read/listen to his books. This one, I listened to the audio book.
First, the narrator. I have to say, I'm going to date myself. But have you ever listened to the song "Wet Dream" by Kip? The tone to the voice, I found the narrator reminded me of it. lol. The old time detective feel with hidden innuendoes in the words. So cool.
The story is a detective/mystery style as Neal learns the ropes of being on the moon, a not so pleasant place to be with crime. Neal has a smart partner, Lucy, who has her own past with her mom's fame. Great detectives in a high crime place.
Then there's Barksley. lol. A talking dog. I love it and his history as well.
Everyone's got a "history" that's a hoot and fun to learn and see how it impacts them and the story here.
The story has a little feel of influence from the movie Cherry 2000. Also, with the punk feel from 1920-ish detective feel. I love this blend! I've not read much with this blend and I want more!
I'm afraid to give too much on the plot as I don't want to give it away. I want you to learn with Neal as you go through the book and world for the first time.
There is fun and action and guns along with high speed chase. All great things to add to the cyber punk feel.

Cindy wants and deserves to be seen as more.
Revisado: 11-20-23
I listened to the audio book, and Heather voicing Cindy, I thought her accent was natural for her. But, I needed to adjust to her pace. I even slowed the audio at times because I couldn't keep up with her quick speak. I know Cindy has many great references but the words all ran together and I struggled to catch all the quick remarks. These books are always known for the fun fantasy, science fiction, and 80's references.
All are close. Like one big family. They love each other and know there are flaws in each, but they work together to cover for where one is less. Like Cindy knows she's not a good mom, so there's Mandy and Amanda and Gary's sister and such a close network here that help raise the girls and help each other. I love the comfort here.
Cindy is tired of being Gary's hench woman and wants to be seen as more. So she comes up with her own plan...steal the dragon's treasure. However, this mission becomes way more than such a simple task. There's more going on with the dragon! And with a few of the family members. They all face something personal as the story goes.
Mandy comments that Cindy is mentally 14. lol! I have to agree with this! She's a chatter box and half of what's said doesn't make sense in logic. lol.
These are fun adventures with Cindy at the lead with her friends and family. Always fun in this world.

I always have fun with Gary's missions.
Revisado: 11-20-23
It's always fun to head out on missions with Gary. I love Gary's jokes and references to his favorite 80's shows, comics, music, and more. I'm almost afraid to admit....I get them. lol
This book has references to all the previous stories, along with Cindy's Seven too (which leads to a few things being the way they are for Gary now). But the previous books are a big lead up to this. Gary has rebooted the world and...there are consequences...complications even...that come with that.
Gary has to take time in this book and practice his spells and view himself as a god. This gives Gary a chance to think about what he wants and why he does what he does. Though, he'll never admit he does good not villainy. lol. There were a list of things that need to be done. It feels like there were several side tasks and stories that happened as we went along. Everywhere had another step to it. And all of it comes together to close this book.
We learn about the consequences and how to fix them. We see super heroes and villains fight Nazis. (lol. Loved hearing Death's view on Hitler. lol) We get a chance to see the family together again.
I'll admit, I was thinking it then Gary said it... Cindy is a little on the dark side. She's out further on the villain side of things. And she always blames Gary for EVERYTHING. I'm starting to not like Cindy as much as I used to. I'm all for strong woman but she seems to be laying blame everywhere on everyone. Kind of whiny feeling. But, I'm starting to think it's her way of dealing with feeling as though she's 2nd or 3rd on the list and her feelings for Gary.
Jeffrey Kafer always does an amazing job voicing the characters in this world. He has the deadpan sound of Gary dropping a great comment or reference that makes me laugh. Some of those remarks...I don't know how you do it Jeffrey. Great job as always.
I'm glad to hear there will be more books in this world/series. I'm looking forward to them!

How to Show Up to Your Business Part of being a mom AND a business owner is accepting that life doesn’t go exactly as we planned. So most of the time, we need to pivot, make adjustments, or go with the flow. But - when we decide to truly show up as business owners - that's when growth happens. In March 2020, I started to put on that business owner hat and stepped into that business owner role. I constantly ask myself, how does owning my business look like for me? How do I show up to my lives, podcasts, emails, blogs, etc.? And along the way, I started to get confident in what I was ...

Revisado: 06-03-22
I love that Abby is herself in these podcasts. I'm only a few in, but loving it. I've grabbed a notebook to keep by me for helpful tips and things I want to remember. This episode struck a cord with me because I always call my tea consulting business my (part-time for now) job. I love looking at it as a job because I show up. I put the effort in and have fun with everything. And people DO see that, and it makes a huge difference.
Thank you Abby!!

Revisado: 04-04-22
Wendy is back to voice Shelby. I'm so glad she's the narrator for this whole series. Wendy IS Shelby for me. She brings Shelby to live via voice. Perfect. Wendy's audio is always clear and clean. So easy to listen to her. Thank you!
Everything Shelby does is important. It seems every aspect of what we see with Shelby is key in her case, things she does with Uncle Joey, or with her family and husbands work. I love how the story flows and all feels important.
I love Shelby's interaction with her husband, Ramos, and even with Uncle Joey. She's so laid back and there's always some sort of oops that happens. Everyone seem to expect it with Shelby and shake their heads and chuckle. It's wonderful.
Always so fun to go with Shelby on her adventures. Sure, she gets into trouble and dangerous moments. But it's seeing how she reacts along with those around her. It's wonderful seeing the fun and light feeling Shelby brings to the day. I just love her outlook on everything, everyone, and life.

Wow. Great start to a new series!
Revisado: 03-28-22
Wow. This is a wonderful book to start off a series I'm now excited to continue with.
Ella has healing hands, though it's a bit more than that. It also grows as the book goes, after she hit Creed with her car in a storm. Such a great duo.
Ella and Creed needed each other in so many ways. They challenge each other and help each other through the difficult troubled times they are in. There's some danger and action, but there's tender moments that grow them as characters, individuals, and as a couple. Both have their insecurities to work through, and doing it together is something beautiful to read.
There is a touch of religion in the book, it's Ella's history with her dad being a Father of the church. I love when religion is part of the book and has a solid purpose in the story. It does here, and ties many things together when we get to the end of the book. Don't be afraid of the book preaching to you, that's NOT the case.
Creed... *sigh* Colleen has this way of writing delicious men. Yes, delicious. They check all the right boxes. Creed is going to become the newest Book Boyfriend around.
I listened to this book. This is a first for me listening to Stevi Incremona. When I started listening, I feared Stevi was speaking slow. But I fell into her pace and it became Ella's voice as I listened. Ella was in need of her getaway, and I think I struggled with her frustration and laid back speech at the beginning. But when Ella (the character) relaxed and fell into her element, all fit perfectly. She was easy to understand and the audio was clear.

I love that I can jump into any Dane Maddox book and go through that adventure without worrying about missing a previous book. (Of course I want to listen to them all!)
I enjoy Maddox and Bones's interactions and friendship. They have great banter with each other and, even if their jokes aren't picked up by those around them, they carry on with them. Oh do they enjoy tormenting each other. lol. I love it! Such a great brotherly bond here. Really a great duo in adventure. They are a fun duo that have loads of experience and are great at what they do.
Jeffrey Kafer. Seriously, one of my favorite narrators. Amazing at these adventures. His voice is perfect for these books and I'm always thrilled to hear him voice these characters. He's great at voicing the dry humor that's dropped in conversations. Love it!

Lost in time, the town of Black Creek, Kentucky becomes home to temporal layers of people, creatures, and monsters from disparate eras. Journey beyond the time of humanity and witness the rewriting of mankind’s genesis. For Owen McCoy, a typical day on the job as head of security for Synergy, a research company conducting mysterious experiments, is boring at best. And that’s the way he likes it. Patrolling the Appalachian mountainside, where his now deceased father taught him how to hunt, is relaxing and connects him to the past.

An adventure through time with action and growth
Revisado: 05-26-20
*I was given this free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
By now I'm sure you know Jeffrey is one of my favorite narrators. Jeffrey doesn't let me down. Jeffrey narrates with perfection. He fits the voices of all the characters well as they live through their events. Jeffrey adds different tones, accents, and personality to each character as they speak.
Owen's day is far from routine. From speaking to, and helping, his would be robber to his day at the job. Nothing is close to normal. Working as head of security at Synergy, Owen doesn't know what the company is working on. Owen seems to take a long stroll through the past on this day.
It doesn't take Jeremy long before things go sideways in the normal day for his main character, Owen. I enjoyed meeting Levi and how Owen befriends him. I am thrilled Jeremy dives in and throws the world into chaos for Owen immediately. It made me curious and kept my attention on the story.
I love going on adventures in Jeremy's books. He always has an interesting spin in his stories. Every chapter drives the story forward and brings more action and details to play into the story to come. I enjoy the tidbits hinted at and seeing them come to fruit as the story goes.
Our main character, Owen, gets to see how he has changed over the years with what he's lived through. It opens Owen's eyes as to what he's missed out on too. As Owen travels and his group grows in number, he realizes much about himself and starts to open up to the idea of how he lives his life. Owen grows as a character through the book. Owen is also given new chances in this story that help with the growth he makes. Owen's a great character, he just starts out a little closed off due to the losses he's felt and lived through.
For the secondary characters, I was drawn to Levi right away. The young adult had some cool sayings and a bit nervous when we meet him, but he was quick to pick up on things too. I really liked the bond created with Levi and Owen. We come across other characters as well that are mysterious or important to Owen that made an impact on me as well; Minute Man, Cassie, little Owen, Dad, Inola, are a few that stick out for me mind.
In the end we come to a small tie that connects this book to another of Jeremy's, The Others. You do not have to read The Others in order to pick anything up, but it may spark you to want to get The Others as I'm now wanting to listen to it.
As always, Jeremy has lived up to my expectations and beyond. Well done.

Closer view at Hook and what she faces personally
Revisado: 05-26-20
*I was given this free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Natalie returns to continue voicing Hook and her adventures. I'm pleased to hear Natalie again. I enjoy her accent for Hook and the many voices she's given to additional characters. The many voices makes the book feel like a full cast in audio. The audio is cut clean and clear for listening.
Hook's ship, Revenge, limps along on the waters after the battle with Peter Pan. They lost crew and the ship is on the verge of sinking. They then cross paths with Admiral William Kidd, who's determined to kill Hook. Then, we move on to a month later. Hook is chased from a married woman's bed and home.
This book has more going on behind the scenes as we listen to the story. We get the connections as the story progresses but earlier in the book we don't know how it's going to connect.
We get to see Hook use her siren song early in this book. It's nice to see she uses it when in need of help. Which we see that using her siren song could have consequences, which Hook is concerned about.
Hook is captain of her ship and she has to act the part, though Hook does care even if she appears hard in the face of her crew. She only wants the best for her crew and to keep them safe, especially from Peter Pan. I get a kick out of Hook and her camaraderie with Buzz, a pixie. They are fun together and Buzz makes me smile with some of his off hand comments.
We see Hook alone and a deeper look into who Hook is. We also get to see Hook with crew and friends on a one on one bases. The story feels to be a character developing one for us with the feelings we see flow through Hook here.
I think, in the end, Hook has a new appreciation for her crew and those she keeps near. She sees they are more to her, and she to them, than she originally leads on. Will this change the way she commands? I hope not. To me, she's always had care in her barked orders, it seems now she knows her crew and friends care for her too.
We get to see Hook with Captain Rackham. I do enjoy the way these two banter. Rackham and Hook seem so good at getting at the other with remarks, and they both take it in stride. There is a history here, and maybe a future? I'd love to see these two interact more in the future. Hook even makes a new friend in the water as well. It's always interesting to see Hook's connection to the mermaids. I wonder if this will come up again in the future.
A fun read that has me looking forward to future installments with Hook and all around her.

*I was given this free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Summoned to help King Mor with the simple task of returning the court magician to his castle turns into more when King Mor dies. Now, Berengar is tasked with finding who killed the king and why. King Mor had a feeling there was dark magic in his lands, but what is really going on?
Matt returns to narrate the story for us. I enjoy his accent on words and speech as he breathes life into the characters. I enjoyed listening to Matt voice the cast. His accent and proper sound fits the world for me. Also, he gives different tones to different character's voices. This helps differentiate the characters for me as I listen. Clean and clear as a bell audio.
Berengar. He sure is a special person. People all around are scared of him due to the stories of his strength and deaths he's brought. But I love him for those stories and how he acts. He's just a man who likes to be on his own with his wolfhound. He's cut off a part of himself from the world for what he's been through and what he has to do in his employment.
This is the second book of the series, and I've found I very much enjoy the woman characters Kyle writes. They are not weak of mind or spirit. They are strong in their own ways. The one that makes a huge impact in this story is Morwen. She's a magician but she's very strong willed along with brilliant. She's determined to help Berengar, and will do so with no fear of the large scarred man.
I enjoy the tale told here. Berengar is smart and has the brass too. There are many secrets in King Mor's castle that Berengar uncovers as he investigates King Mor's death. The king had many things going on that was kept from others. There are deaths as Berengar comes closer to people who could tell some small sliver to help with the investigation of who killed the king. Berengar keeps track of all that he learns and works with Morwen to put it all together, even if it feels to be separate incidents. It all comes together as Berengar digs too deep for those involved and puts Berengar's life in danger, though Berengar is use to this.
Not only is there a mystery where we get the details, it's set in a fantasy world. I love this blend! We get the action, fights, and magic that can be found in fantasy stories. The world feels as though I'm familiar with it. It's not heavy with rules and magic, it's easy to follow the world and events.
This is book two in the series, but how the books are written I think you could read them out of order. Sure, there are mentions of the first book here but that doesn't heavily sway the mystery in this book. Now we do have an evolution to Berengar that's happening, so reading the first book will give you the beginnings of how Berengar is growing as a character.
I'm totally in for the series! Can't wait for more!
