I had been curious to learn more about the type of Christianity that defines the Amish faith and this book was a perfect overview.

Timeless Entertainment
Revisado: 04-22-23
I discovered Michael Crichton and his brilliant writing early on, and read Jurassic Park shortly after it was published . Like everyone else, I’ve enjoyed the movies over the decades, but this audiobook brought me faithfully back to the incredible writing, ideas, and gripping entertainment only the original written version delivered. You will not be disappointed.

Historia
A revolutionary approach to the techniques of working with horses, by a renowned instructor. In Horses Never Lie, renowned horse trainer Mark Rashid challenges the conventional wisdom of "alpha leadership" and teaches the listener to become a "passive leader" - a counterpart to the kind of horse other members of a herd choose to associate with and to follow. Applying Rashid’s principles and techniques helps cultivate horse personalities that are responsive and dependable regardless of the rider.

Great insight into the human/horse relationship
Revisado: 03-05-23
Rashid is unique among the various horse whisperer‘s in that his empathy for horses seems to shine through very sincerely. He doesn’t spend a lot of time telling you how great he is with horses; instead, he describes the puzzles he’s had to untangle over the years in the lessons learned.
I enjoy all of these books by Monty Roberts, etc., but Mark Rashid offers, an insight that, to me, is more valuable than anything else I’ve read.

Historia
Millions of Christians and non-Christians look to Thomas Merton for spiritual wisdom and guidance, but to whom did Merton look? In The Franciscan Heart of Thomas Merton, Franciscan friar and author Daniel Horan shows how, both before and after he became a Trappist monk, Merton's life was shaped by his love for St. Francis and for the Franciscan spiritual and intellectual tradition.

Unexpected, Riveting, and Challenging
Revisado: 09-18-19
As a Franciscan monk, Daniel Horan decided to write the story of how St. Francis influenced Trappist monk extraordinaire Thomas Merton. I purchased this audiobook because I am a huge fan of Saint Francis - basically a secular groupie - and also of Thomas Merton. What I expected was an organized reflection of my own observations on the overlap of what each lived and believed; instead, this audiobook is a remarkable, deep, and complex analysis which dramatically exceeded my optimistic expectations.
It is not for spiritual or intellectual lightweights; Horan goes deep, fast, and unapologetically into archaic and complex historical Christian figures, mysticism and terminology. The vibe is basically “keep up, reader”. The parallels noted by the author, particularly as relating to each man’s remarkable open-mindedness toward other faiths, are magnificently disruptive to Catholic dogma… in a GREAT way. Even a St. Francis geek like me had to rewind quite frequently to figure out what Horton had just eloquently elaborated. This is an extraordinary audiobook, a refreshing waterfall of insight into Thomas Merton and, more importantly, a powerful affirmation of just how much our beloved St. Francis of Assisi has positively affected the modern Catholic perspective.

How should parents raise children, and how should schools educate children? Why are we attracted to things that are forbidden? What is time? How can we understand God, or the nature of evil? What is true friendship? To answer these questions, Professors Cook and Herzman look to the Confessions of St. Augustine of Hippo.

Fantastic Course!
Revisado: 12-04-16
Professors Herzman and Cook are the dynamic duo of historical Christian teaching and their lecture series are always the best. Their course on St. Francis of Assisi was my absolute favorite of all the Great Courses, but this one what's especially valuable to me since I struggled to understand Saint Augustine's confessions when I try to read it years ago. Educational, interesting, and enlightening in many ways for nerdy, less-indoctrinated seekers like me! (-:
