Historia
Grandma left me the life of my dreams with one ginormous catch. Miles flipping Cromwell. Workaholic king of grumps. Control freak. Older billionaire next door. We didn't exactly hit it off when he showed up with an offer to buy my land and my hyperactive dogs yanked my robe open right in front of him. I wish running him off my porch totally mortified was the worst part. But reopening Washington's cutest inn gets crazy expensive. When Seattle's hottest cranky-face bachelor comes knocking again, he has me cornered. This time with a high-paid job offer I can't refuse.

DNF - *7 hours in*
Revisado: 02-22-25
7 freakin’ hours into this book and I just couldn’t finish it. MFC is written to be such a hateful little brat and I kept going, thinking, it’s got to get bette soon, but NOPE. She’s still hateful for no discernible reason this far in to the book.
There’s a weird plot against the town and something’s up with the other realtor and Miles and it’s just too much but going no where.
And then Miles is drooling over the hateful brat and I am done. 🤷♀️. Audio performers did fine with what they had so there’s that.

Enjoyed this quite a bit!
Revisado: 06-11-21
I found this quite enjoyable, though I did feel bad for Lucy having to face society while it seemed Simon was cheating on her.
I also was hoping this was a series which had a book with John and Gin as a couple. It was set up as if it was going to happen, but then that didn’t happen.
Re: the narrator, she was fine, except I’d have liked a bit of a pause when changing from one scene to the next.

I loved everything about this book. I think the narration was perfectly suited to the story. I laid awake all night to listen as I didn't want to wait. A definite favorite.

Miss Gail Alton was not having a good day. Or a good year. First, she's strong-armed into attending the Season as a foil to her beautiful sister,Evangeline. Then, while riding her mare in the park, she gets toppled by a stuffy, self-important, too-handsome-by-half "gentleman" who has the audacity to blame her for their fall into the chilly lake! Little does Gail know that the very same man will soon be found in a compromising position with her sister....

Enjoyed well enough
Revisado: 05-23-21
I did end up listening to this at a higher speed towards the end. I would've prefered this have been pared down a touch from 14 & a quarter hours in length though. Glad the stepmother wasn't a total bitch after all though through most of the book, it seemed like it. I hated that she insisted the 20 & 18 year old daughters call her Mother after she'd been with the father for such a small amount of time... that was grating.
But I enjoyed the main characters of Gail, Evangeline, Max & Will quite a bit. I would've liked a bit more hijinx with the four of them at the end. The final scene w/ the father & stepmother made me laugh, and definitely redeemed her a bit.

Love love loved this book!
Revisado: 05-17-21
I'm finding Tessa Dare combined with Mary Jane Wells my new favorite combo of writer and narrator and this one didn't disappoint at all! I laughed so hard, I scared my cat off my lap more than once. So much humor, while still weaving a touching story was wonderfully done.
What I especially loved was there was no misunderstandings that could've been solved with a two minute conversation like so many authors seem to rely to push the story forward. I loved Gabriel's sarcasm and Penny's optimism and her strength.
I can't wait for Nicola's story as much for her story as for the continuation of the "Bromance" with the three men. I wish there were more to come than just the one more.

Slow starter- took me a while to get into this one
Revisado: 05-17-21
I'm not sure if it was the story or narrator- maybe a little of both but this took a while to get into the book. I found it much easier to get into it listening on a 1.3x speed which I'm not a fan of, for the simple fact that the story keeps me occupied for such a short period of time on a higher speed.
The story did build though and I really did enjoy the last half quite a bit which is why my rating is middle of the road. If the 1st half had been even just a bit more entertaining/less draggy, I'd have given this a higher rating overall as the last half did deserve higher but my rating is for the overall book.
One thread that I felt completely dropped was how they explained the twist of the story to "The Ton"... how was it accepted so readily (as it seemed based on the epilogue) I would've liked to hear a little bit about that, even if it was just a throw away line or two.
This is my first book by this author so I'll listen to one or two more but to have half a book drag on the regular isn't something I'll spend money on purpose.

Grew Tiresome- needed a good editor
Revisado: 05-12-21
This book at 15 1/2 hours was just too damn long, which is weird since I often wish my books would continue on but this just grew tiresome. What added to that is the breathy narration that dragged on (and on) incessantly. The narrator did a really good job with the distinct voices for the dialog but the intonation of everything other than dialog got to be too much. It kept building and building and building upwards with no relief in sight. Much like Alex after some of the seducing scenes with Charlotte, I'm afraid.
Re the story, there were too many misunderstandings that could've been easily solved with a simple conversation but the lack thereof caused so much dramatic heartache and for me, just ruined any enjoyment of the book. In the end, I skipped several chapters when it became clear what the last big misunderstanding was going to be, forwarding to the last chapter to wrap the story up.
The book would've been so much better if there had been some series editing involved.
