I loved the story, particularly her voice and her way of storytelling. It was a genuine and authentic story told in a verybold way. I’m giving it four stars instead of five because I was expecting a full exploration of drunk mother and how it truly affects her potential and all possibilities in her life. To me that part seemed a bit perfunctory; however, overall the story is powerful. Her voice is very strong, and I love how vivid and vibrant and genuine of Texas the narrative was.

Very necessary for serious writers to understand why they need to think two or more genres to apply when crafting their stories.

They say a good book is one when you finish you feel like you have lost a friend. Dead Egyptians by Del Blackwater gave me exactly that feeling. Memorable characters, particularly the protagonist Albion and the ever-hauntingly charismatic Imhotep. Original, insightful, and delightful dialogue that makes you listen to forever. I also learned much about Egypt, making me fall in love with the ancient world. The themes of reincarnation, colonialism, and ancient Egyptian religions were edifying. Great world-building with cinematic visuals that capture and transcend one’s imagination into its psychological depth and metaphysical intrigue. And finally, the narrator has done a splendid job voicing the characters and bringing dialogue to life. Highly recommended.

Dr. Sima Samar's memoir is a compelling, edifying, and inspirational story. It delves into her life as a pioneering human rights advocate in Afghanistan. I like that the story is persona; it traces her journey from growing up in a patriarchal society to her career in medicine and her relentless pursuit of justice and equality, particularly for women and ethnic minorities. Samar's candid reflections on the challenges she faced, including the dangers of opposing oppression in a male-dominated world, are both insightful and and important piece of Afghanistan's modern history. As an Afghan and Hazara diaspora in America, I relate strongly to the themes and issues she has examined in her real life story. Her discussions of Afghanistan's political turmoil, the effects of war, and the ongoing fight for women's rights add depth to her story. Outspoken is not just a memoir but a powerful call to action, making it essential reading for anyone interested in human rights and gender equality in Afghanistan. I also like the narrator who is apparently an Afghan-American. She pronounces Afghan terms properly and respectfully and coveys the emotions involved therein. Highly recommended.
