I love his intellectual storytelling. For the moderately well read, his allusions are fulfilling. For the under educated, this level may be too much, look elsewhere.

not the story I was expecting

This is my first Andrew Clavan book and my eyes are telling me that this is a good book. It is December 16, and the story and the calendar agree, we can hope for happy endings and once in a while, despite everything going on around us, despite the fear and frustration, life.

Notable story with a nice ending

Once in a while I like to read a story away from my usual scope. This story harken back to college days and the friends formed that lasted lifetimes. Being of an age where many friends have left this mortal coil, it was somewhat poignant when the book started with a funeral. But so goes life, mercilessly, constantly, finally.

Read this with the knowledge that memories will flood back involuntarily and may keep one awake with no remorse.

I did not love the book in the sense of normal nonfiction work, but it should be read by all the world. we need to be reminded often of the tragedy and evil man can do to others.

Very much an old yarn of seamanship and romance.

I watched the old movie many years ago, and recently ran across this book by C. S. Forester. Maybe too wordy for this generation but my old ears enjoyed the wordsmith. the ending was abrupt, much like other Forester works. I didn't mind, it is better than the typical post modern books that leave you where they found you.

An amazing story, by an amazing leader.

in my declining years, I have been looking to former Seal Team leaders because they did what I wished. this story is guiding me to the finish line. so much of what Jason Redman talks about, I have lived, only on the failing side. I really never found my way after the X. I'm moving on now to The Trident. I'm sure it will be equally good.

I knew little about Admiral McRaven until Rob O'NEAL introduced him to me in The Way Forward. If I had the chance to do it all over again, I would follow these men and wish the chance were real.
