Historia
In Trinidad, in 1796, teenage Rosa Rendon quietly but purposefully rebels against typical female roles and behavior. Bright, competitive, and opinionated, Rosa sees no reason she should learn to cook and keep house - it is obvious her talents lie in running the farm she expects to be her birthright, despite her two older siblings. But as her homeland goes from Spanish to British rule, it becomes increasingly unclear whether its free black property owners - Rosa's family among them - will be allowed to keep their assets, their land, and ultimately, their freedom.

Painful Truths Artfully unfold! There is power in the fight!
Revisado: 07-30-20
Well written, heartbreaking, and eerily-connecting for those who are tenderly familiar with depression. I was in an almost constant feeling of “I can only stomach this story in short dosages at a time.”😔
Hope, connection, tenderness is what I valued most from this story. 💛

Historia
A Tall History of Sugar tells the story of Moshe Fisher, a man who was "born without skin", so that no one is able to tell what race he belongs to; and Arrienne Christie, his quixotic soul mate who makes it her duty in life to protect Moshe from the social and emotional consequences of his strange appearance. The narrative begins with Moshe's birth in the late 1950s, four years before Jamaica's independence from colonial rule, and ends in the era of Brexit and Donald Trump.

What A Journey!
Revisado: 06-19-19
I have an exceptional tenderness for this book as the subject matter is near and dear to my heart, having a daughter who suffers from schizoaffective disorder. It took me a while to decide to read this book but I’m glad that I did. It was beautifully written and heartbreaking and thought provoking and educational. For those who know someone who suffers from mental illness, has a relationship with such person would benefit from this beautiful story.

Unorthodox, unashamed, extraordinary, well written! The narrator’s voice wooed me to attention ❤️ This book has opened my mind in a different way and I appreciate it! Stepping out of what we know into what we innately know, is the journey of this story. Kept me open and thinking and agreeing to ideas I would not have, before hearing this book! Thank you Mr. Mosley!
