Historia
As boys, best friends Jeremy Cox and Rafe Howell went missing in a vast West Virginia state forest, only to mysteriously reappear six months later with no explanation for where they’d gone or how they’d survived. Fifteen years after their miraculous homecoming, Rafe is a reclusive artist who still bears scars inside and out but has no memory of what happened during those months. Meanwhile, Jeremy has become a famed missing persons’ investigator. With his uncanny abilities, he is the one person who can help Emilie Wendell find her sister, who vanished in the very same forest as Rafe and Jeremy.

Not What I Thought It Would Be
Revisado: 07-25-24
Sets up for a an interesting mystical read. Nobody says romance novel. I guess to be fair, fairy tales have romance. I did listen to the whole book. I even commented to my husband about the “storyteller’ s corner”, the very clever interjections from time to time during the narrative. I got hooked early with listening to lost boys found. But, the tale went south fast with the build of the relationship/romance. That overtook the build of the other world. For me, the voices given of the main characters didn’t match their age. They sounded teen-like even though they were well past teen years. Many topics are tackled in the story, such as abuse, family bonds, friendships, trust, death, staying true to one’s self to name a few. There is a fairy tale here. There is a fantasy world. There are fantastical creatures. And it sure sounds like the story is just beginning. If you like romantic fairy then this is very romantic.

Historia
J. Courtney Sullivan meets Jennifer Weiner in this page-turning and heartfelt multi-generational debut about the smart, headstrong, and equally flawed Harris women, forging their own paths in life, set on the idyllic shores of Cape Cod. It’s the summer of 2002, and 21-year-old Sarah Harris has experienced enough heartache this past year to last a lifetime. She escapes to the solace of her aunt’s Cape Cod beach cottage to work at a swanky golf resort, and save up enough money to put herself through college and help her family’s dwindling finances.

Pleasant Listening
Revisado: 03-17-24
Emily Wakeman Cry developed a story, in a beautiful setting, with moms and daughters and the ties that brings. Sarah Wadsley, has voice that I got lost. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was worth my time.
The Cape and Connecticut were beautiful settings for this story. I live in CT. I’ve been to both the Cape and Boston. The author did a wonderful job bring me right out onto the Cape. From the crossing over the bridge, to following the cars all the way to Province Town, I could taste lobster and ice cream, and remember playing miniature golf, and best of all hear the ocean sounds.
A common theme in the story line is timing and communication. Or, what I noticed was, lack of communication. Communication played a big role in the drama, from texting to self-talk. We came to see how important it can be when it comes to laying the stones in the foundation of a relationship. My favorite character Aunt Claire, told a metaphorical story about her home. The story solidified idea that relationships need strong foundation. Also the work you put makes you appreciate what you have. For me, Wadsley’s voice made Aunt Claire the quintessential lady on Cape Cod.
Towards the end of the story we briefly see an old clock on the wall. It has long stopped telling time, but it’s still on the wall. The image of that clock speaks volumes.
Pleasant Bay is story set mostly on Cape Cod but it’s but these woman learn and share their first loves, second chance, parenting and self care lessons. This is beach read, a summer read, an escape. It easy listening, it’s romantic and in some ways nostalgic because Cape Cod is memories.

I do enjoy going to small towns
Revisado: 10-20-23
One of my favorite places to visit is Mitford. Who hasn’t heard of Mayberry? The characters in this story may, not be as next door as these iconic towns. While this who done brings in a younger main cast we do meet several town folks. It’s a nice little story if you like small town mysteries, family business and quaint shops. Think old time Nancy Drew stuff. For me, the narration played a big role in keeping this story moving forward. The actress did a nice job giving each character a voice keeping this listener well entertained. If you're looking for a true crime this is not it. But meeting a fun fluffy rabbit pet? Listen now.

Yes, your next family listen
Revisado: 07-20-22
Some narrators grab my attention. You know those story tellers like, Scott Brick, MacLeod Andrews, Cassandra Campbell. When they give voice to characters, it enhances the experience for me. This narrator has taken a cast of fantasy creature and made me smile or cringe. He’s done his job well with a large cast from fairies to vampires. The story is well thought out. It builds slowly so give it time. I don’t see your five year old engrossed in this plot. But it will grab your eight to twelve year old fantasy reader. Here’s the plus, I’m sure you’ll find talking points all throughout the story line. What just happened? What’s really being said? How does it relate to…? When you can listen and discuss a book with your family it’s worth your time.

Congratulations to P.E. Padilla on this book! A well thought out world, interesting/engaging characters, and a well paced plot. It's well narrated with an unbelievable number of voices to match all the characters. I can't wait for the rest of the series to be released on Audible!

A Good Start for a Trilogy
Revisado: 02-11-21
This was a good light read/listen. The premise is interesting, the characters well developed and interesting enough to want to follow. The narrator does a great job with the voices and keeps them interesting. The pace could be a bit quicker... but then again it is a trilogy and character development takes some time!

I gave this a try
Revisado: 10-20-19
I read the reviews and understood the story might be a bit unbelievable but that it would be entertaining. I did listen to the end but did not find entertainment. I gave this a try because I thought I could relate to the topic and it would it be a release to find an entertaining story in this setting. I did not hear the right voice nor did feel for her story. I certainly did not laugh out loud or stay glued to the plot. I would not recommend this book.

Historia
Bram Gold is a Courser, a hunter-for-hire who deals with supernatural creatures, mystical happenings, and things that go booga-booga in the night in the Bronx, New York. The Bronx is the home to several immortals, who are notoriously hard to kill - so it comes as rather a surprise when one of them turns up murdered, seemingly by a vampire. In addition, binding spells all across town are either coming undone, failing to work, or are difficult to restore.

Historical Urban Fantasy!
Revisado: 08-21-19
Expect to be introduced to Bram Gold and escape to a mystical urban fantasy world. But surprise, not only be entertained by the nonsensical world but, be immersed in the factual history of the Bronx. DeCandido thanks his time working at the U.S. Census Bureau from 2009-10 for allowing him to explore his home borough and it’s history. And he steeps this story with figures, facts, and places to create his unique fantasy. If you’re not a history buff don’t be afraid of this read. He crafts these tidbits so neatly that they are layers of the story and blend so well they add dimension. If you love to learn about New York this is a fun way to scavenge out details. DeCandido has, for me,created a “divine image” (wink, wink) by weaving so much historical data. I look forward to DeCandido and Clark in this series.

Best praise; I listened twice
Revisado: 05-30-19
I listened to this book twice back to back. Why? Everything about this tale of time travel is done right. I laughed out load, listened with intent and thought about my preconceived biblical notions (but not too long). The genre is sci-fi and the tale historical. Very satisfying mix done with wit and believable character interplay that leads the plot nicely to the end of the story. You won’t need to listen twice to enjoy the read. Davis and Clark can time travel with this cast of characters again and this listener thinks they should.

Love, Home and Family
Revisado: 05-12-19
Maybe not just a slow build Wild West romance set in outer space? Maybe there is a reason Gael has not seen the sun? The narrator does a good job with each character and that helps move the story along. It’s interesting that Kelly Jensen takes on so many themes in this story; good and evil, trust, home, love, family, justice. Jensen chooses to set us in a boundary of poisonous mists on a plant with no atmosphere in deep crevasses. I think she is saying something. It appears we only get to to see the sun when we are with the people we truly care about.
