Creative scientific premise
Revisado: 09-11-24
Ruby Todd created a complex psychological drama within a well constructed mystery. The fictional bright object, St. John’s comet was a character in itself.

Introspective or navel gazing?
Revisado: 05-19-24
I was overall disappointed with the tone of this novel. Too much “poor me” against the world, including her own family.

Historia
Prior to World War II, Josephine Baker was a music-hall diva renowned for her singing and dancing, her beauty and sexuality; she was the most highly paid female performer in Europe. When the Nazis seized her adopted city, Paris, she was banned from the stage, along with all "negroes and Jews". Yet, instead of returning to America, she vowed to stay and to fight the Nazi evil. Overnight she went from performer to Resistance spy. In Agent Josephine best-selling author Damien Lewis uncovers this little known history of the famous singer's life.

Great story-poor audio presentation
Revisado: 10-08-22
I thoroughly enjoyed this book which intertwined the biography of Josephine Baker and the fascinating story of espionage in the Second World War. I'm so glad to have learned about this courageous woman.
I would like to point out to future listeners that the quality of the audio presentation was not nearly up to the standard I've previously experienced on Audible. The book was read by the author. His repeated mispronunciations of places and names was grating. For example-he pronounced Saint Louis, the city in Missouri, as Saint Louie, Roosevelt first syllable "roo", and the name Juanita as Ja-won-eeta. There were frequent spots in the presentation where he must have come back to make a correction or addition that seemed rather carelessly inserted. In short, I don't think the reading was edited much at all. The audio was produced by Hachette. I will be careful about purchasing future audios from this company.
