Historia
Alexia Maccon, the Lady Woolsey, awakens in the wee hours of the midafternoon to find her husband, who should be decently asleep like any normal werewolf, yelling at the top of his lungs. Then he disappears, leaving her to deal with a regiment of supernatural soldiers encamped on her doorstep, a plethora of exorcised ghosts, and an angry Queen Victoria.

Great continuation of the first book with an amazing story
Revisado: 04-29-24
My opinion? This book is better than the first one, because at this point I was so deeply immersed in the story that I could piece together the mystery and appreciate the characters more fully.
The first book had a lot of the common “first book” problems that come with this kind of setting. Lots of worldbuilding and exposition is needed to make sense of everything going on, and that can drag down a book if not done well. Even when it is done well, it still can hurt the flow of the book.
Changeless, however, has the benefit of being the second book, and so all of that worldbuilding is largely done already. New concepts are introduced, as expected, but the bulk of the work has already been done, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the story and characters.
The overarching theme of betrayal is so wonderfully brought together by the finale of the book, and I didn’t even really think about it, which is always fun for my books. Lots of betrayals and backstabs, real or perceived, and it gave me a lot to think about going into the third book.
Overall: wonderful book, probably going to be even better when I go back and inevitably re-listen to the whole series in the future. There are moments where the narration is a bit flat, but still perfectly fine as a whole.

Historia
Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette. Where to go from there? From bad to worse, apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire - and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.

A fun and mostly complete story, leaving room for more
Revisado: 04-21-24
I came off this book from a FAR worse novel, so my opinion is a bit biased, but I very much enjoyed it. The plot was fun. the world was interesting, and the characters all felt well-enough developed to engage with.
If there was one criticism I had to make, it would be the occasional lack of tension in certain dramatic scenes. While having a main character be blase and calm is fun, it can also result in some moments lacking the tension that they would have otherwise. Since we see everything from Alexia’s perspective, if she takes a nonchalant approach to something, it can create an odd tone when the scene is of some sort of horrifically monstrous event.
That said, the majority of the book is very fun and those kinds of scenes are few and far between. The dynamic between Alexia and her romantic interest is delightfully snarky, but also feels equal in how they treat each other. It’s a healthy competition between the two, not one side constantly dominating the dynamic.
Alexia is snarky and capable, and furthermore she isn’t dumb enough to think she can do everything entirely by herself.
I suppose one possible issue could be that she doesn’t have any obvious character flaws, which could put off a potential listener. However, she does have flaws, they’re just not broadcast to the entire world at large. It takes time for them to show, becoming more obvious as the audience sees more of her throughout the book

Historia
Zoey and Daniel were childhood sweethearts until a violent car crash took his life and left her shattered. When Daniel returned from the grave as a vampire, his only interest in Zoey was in keeping her safely apart from the secrets of his dark world. He has vowed to protect her, but his heart seems as cold as the night he calls home. Five years later, a mysterious new client named Lucas Halfer offers Zoey a fortune to steal the Light of Alhorra. The search for the Light leads Zoey into the arms of an earthbound faery prince.

An interesting concept, but with a lack of substance
Revisado: 04-17-24
I was interested in this story on two fronts. It came recommended from a friend of the Supernatural Romance genre, and the summary on Audible intrigued me.
To start, I enjoyed the concepts presented. I liked the dynamic Zoey had with Devon, and Neil as a whole is a wonderful character that I always enjoyed whenever he was in a scene.
My issues with the book begin largely with Daniel, his dynamic with Zoey, and then grow to encompass Zoey’s role in the story.
Daniel is actively dismissive at the start of the story and there is little in his actions to endear him to the audience. He is also controlling and possessive at the worst times, with Zoey actively attempting multiple times to separate from him physically and him forcing himself into her presence. Yet, despite this fact, multiple people support them being together or act as though this is normal. Zoey herself eventually succumbs to the idea of “he’s afraid of himself, so it’s alright he’s being manipulative”
Zoey herself is…rather underwhelming. In a world of supernaturals, a human isn’t going to last very long, as the story demonstrates very clearly, so you would expect her to have…something up her sleeves. She also supposedly has a solid reputation as a thief. Despite this, she never truly…accomplishes anything without the involvement of one of her romantic partners.
Every time I expected Zoey to do something by herself, in some capacity, one of her romantic prospects (typically Daniel) would burst in and steal what should’ve been a successful moment showcasing her abilities. At the end of the book, I was left to wonder “why did Zoey exist in the story, apart from being arm candy for the supernaturals? What did she bring to the table to push along the story, other than angsting over possible lovers?”
For me, this story suffered from the idea of “let’s say the main character is capable, and show her doing something potentially impressive and noteworthy, only to have one of the supernaturals show up and protect her when her plan blows up in her face.”
To summarise; while the concept is fun, the main character ends up being lacklustre and basically inconsequential in her own book. The romance feels unhealthy at best, and a justification of manipulation and neglect at worst.

Historia
Captain Nathan J. Northland had no idea what to expect when he returned home to Lorehaven injured from war, but it certainly wasn't to find himself posted on an island full of vampires. An island whose local vampire dandy lord causes Nathan to feel strange things he'd never felt before. When Vlad Blutstein agreed to hire Nathan as the captain of the Eyrie Guard, he hadn't been sure what to expect either, but it certainly hadn't been to fall in love with a disabled werewolf.

A good book, just feels a little incomplete
Revisado: 04-16-24
Overall, a fun listen and a breath of fresh air after some very long and torturously bad books in my library.
I heard about this book because it was recommended to me as a polyromantic novel. The summary seemed to reflect this as well, so I was a bit confused for the first hour or so until I realised that it was more “gay monogamous romance with flirty remarks towards a third”
I enjoyed the experience of listening to this. I think it was worth the time to listen to and to buy, but it felt a touch incomplete in terms of the plot. While the story being told is coherent and comes to a resolution, there are still several unanswered questions and plot threads.
With that said, I’m rating at 4 stars because it seems likely that this is the first in a series, and those threads will be tied up in the future.

Historia
We rely on willpower to create change in our lives...but what if we're thinking about it all wrong? In Willpower Doesn't Work, Benjamin Hardy explains that willpower is nothing more than a dangerous fad—one that is bound to lead to failure. Instead of "white-knuckling" your way to change, you need to instead alter your surroundings to support your goals. This book shows you how.

Misleading Title
Revisado: 03-28-19
The book's fine, I suppose, but it's not really about what the title says it is. Only the first couple chapters are about using scaffolding in your life to make good decisions, rather than relying upon willpower. After that it veers off into religious magical thinking methods to will your way into success. Which, if that works for you, more power to you, but it's not what I was expecting from the title and I wish I could return this one.
