His voice. As always, is transcendent. I had just finished my morning meditation and somehow this popped up. The perfect book end.
I know he’ll never see this but thank you, Rufus. Notre Dame candle…lovely.

Historia
Ink from the Pen is the story of an educated, HIV+ gay man whose decades-long walk on the wild side came crashing down in 2004, when he found himself facing nine months in prison for dealing the crystal meth he’d become addicted to during the worst of the AIDS epidemic. Olmsted soon discovered his love of words was precisely what would get him through the experience. With a keen eye for detail and an unerring capacity to deftly convey the poignancy and absurdities of incarceration, Mark learned that creativity is one of the most powerful survival tools there is.

Exquisitely written and narrated
Revisado: 07-31-22
I read Ink from the Pen when it was first released. In full disclosure I've known the author for several
decades and have always been a huge fan of his writing. We worked together on a film project and were
even roommates once upon a time. What I didn't know was that he was living a double life and that I like
anyone who knew him was astounded upon hearing the reason for his arrest and imprisonment.
Mark Olmsted was/is one of the most intelligent, keenly observant, compassionate, generous and
unequivocally hilarious humanitarians I've ever met. That he landed in prison still prompts a cartoon
shake of the head but listening to his story--expertly and beautifully narrated by Michael Crouch--
reminds me of how complex, vulnerable and mercurial the human spirit is and how limiting it is to
identify someone as merely the sum of the worst event in their lives.
If you still have a beach vacation on the books, I cannot recommend this book enough.
Thank you Mark Olmsted for having the courage to tell this story, the wisdom to remain faithful to the
truth and the compassion to shine a light on those who may never see the light of day outside of prison
walls.

Look forward to seeing the movie
Revisado: 12-31-21
Disclaimer: Yes, I narrated the book so now that you know that I just have to say that reading this 23 hour book was one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had as a narrator and reader.
Everyday I looked forward to being in the booth because all of the characters became people I cared about and the insights and revelations Tess encountered seeped into my own life. I didn’t know until the last chapter how it would end and wept at the end—partially because I had to say goodbye to these characters.
A beautiful love story told artfully.
I can’t recommend it enough.

Even I fall asleep to my own voice..
Revisado: 11-30-21
What happens when a filmmaker and an actress (who also narrates audiobooks) get together and swap stories about not sleeping in a year?
Well…Dear Sleep” is what happens.
We loved the idea of falling asleep to personal letters from a bygone era when people wrote letters imbued with deeper feelings to one another read in a slow soporific (boring) tone.
And because some folks like music and some don’t we offered the option.
As strange as it may sound I can now fall asleep to my own droning voice—with or without music—and sometimes it’s Kim’s melodic tones that are exactly what the sleep doctor prescribed1
We hope in 2022 ‘Dear Sleep’ ushers you gently into dreamland..
