Too much
Revisado: 06-29-23
Too much information. Relentless drama. Little forward momentum (it takes almost five hours for the boys to clear the birth canal). And, of course, an orgy of punishment for the wayward girl.

Sonchai Jitpleecheep - the brash and beguiling Royal Thai Police Force detective who has been our guide through John Burdett’s five previous acclaimed Bangkok novels - is back. The former monk and devout Buddhist, forever battling to protect his karma from the assaults of morally compromising cases, is now faced with the most horrifying technological innovation to make its way to the streets of Bangkok and a conspiracy of almost unfathomable reach.

A parody of prior books
Revisado: 02-11-23
Good series. Loved every prior novel. Skip this one. The plot is preposterous. The sexualization of the lesbian detective appealing to 14 year olds.

Historia
This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.

A Downgrade from The Three Body Problem
Revisado: 02-21-22
Because the story line remains inventive, and the plot lines are imaginative and kept me hooked, I'm still able to give a two star overall review. But this installment in the story of the Earth's battle with the Trisolarans has undergone a significant reduction in the composition of its characters. All heroes and antiheroes, space fleet generals, wall facers and wall breakers, chapter protagonists, and even the few Trisolarans in contact with humanity are all men. In this future, women's equality has been drained down a blackhole, and only stereotypes remain: the wise old sage; the smart but dangerous; and the childlike—the latter represented by beings (human and robot alike) of angelic beauty and innocence whose only mode of speak is softly. At the center of it all are Luo Ji's two ideal women, the first imagined, the second one real, both of them an extraordinary feat of misogynistic creation. All I can hope for now is that Netflix, through the wisdom of enlightened casting, will bring some gender balance to this part of the saga (and perhaps tone down a bit the mounting Christian imagery of the last chapters).

Historia
Ari Thór Arason is a local policeman whose tumultuous past and uneasy relationships with the villagers in an idyllically quiet fishing village in Northern Iceland - where no one locks their doors - continue to haunt him. The peace of this close-knit community is shattered by the murder of a policeman - shot at point-blank range in the dead of night in a deserted house. With a killer on the loose and the dark Arctic winter closing in, it falls to Ari Thór to piece together a puzzle that involves tangled local politics, a compromised new mayor, and a psychiatric ward.

Historia
Mrs. Dalloway, perhaps Virginia Woolf’s greatest novel, vividly follows English socialite Clarissa Dalloway as she prepares for a party in post-World War I London. Four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening (American Beauty, The Kids Are All Right) brings Woolf’s stream-of-consciousness style of storytelling to life, exploring the hidden springs of thought and action in one day of a woman’s life in a brilliant performance.

Baffling Read
Revisado: 08-10-18
I can't imagine what might have prompted the reader, or the director, of this audiobook to pepper the reading with full stops. Full stops between verb and subject, between noun and adjective, between verb and adverb, after a preposition not incorrectly ending a sentence but in the middle of it, or splitting in half an idiomatic phrase. An apparently random word would hesitantly follow a sentence delivered as final an instant ago, opening it up for reinterpretation. Why? This choice baffled me throughout the length of this audiobook.
