This was a fantastic follow up to Zombie Bigfoot! Very natural story telling. So out there and fun, but in touch with reality enough to ground it. If you are a stick in the mud or have something up the backside, this is not for you. If you read to be entertained and are capable of being lighthearted, this will keep you entertained from start to finish. Truly a delight.

Metro 2033 pulled me in with its eerie, atmospheric take on a post-apocalyptic world, but what truly kept me reading was Artyom’s transformation. Watching him evolve from a young, uncertain survivor to someone who understands the horrors and mysteries lurking in the Metro was fascinating.

Unlike the video game, which is action-focused, the book takes its time, building an unsettling, claustrophobic world where the enemy isn’t always visible. Sometimes, it’s just a creeping sense of dread that something far beyond human comprehension is watching from the shadows. The unknown forces hinted at through encounters with the “Dark Ones” and strange, silent stations give the book a haunting edge.

Artyom’s encounters with other survivors—some allies, others unpredictable or hostile—add depth to his journey. By the end, he’s a changed character, and I felt as though I’d traveled the tunnels with him, feeling both the tension and the unexpected wonder.

This read was a standout, and I’m excited to dive into Metro 2034 and Metro 2035 to see where Artyom’s journey through this gritty, mysterious world takes him next.

A Delightfully Outlandish Monster Thrill Ride

If you’re looking for a serious, brooding epic, Zombie Bigfoot isn’t it—and that’s exactly why it’s such a joy. This book is pure fun, embracing an absurdly entertaining concept that somehow feels just right. The story never takes itself too seriously, and it’s all the better for it. The writing is concise, with no unnecessary fluff, making for a fast-paced, action-packed adventure that hits all the right beats.

The attention to detail was a pleasant surprise—references like the CheyTac M200 rifle show that the author did their research, grounding this wild story just enough to keep you invested. The characters, especially in their quick exchanges, each have a distinct voice that makes them memorable, adding a layer of personality and depth that brings the story to life. You get just enough of each character to care about them, which is perfect for a high-energy monster adventure.

This is escapism at its finest. I don’t often find books that entertain so effortlessly, but Zombie Bigfoot delivers in every way I wanted. It’s exactly the right length for this type of story, focusing on the thrill without overextending. If you’re in the mood for Victorian drama or gothic romance, this isn’t your book. But if you’re here to enjoy an outlandish, action-packed, undead Bigfoot adventure, Zombie Bigfoot is an absolute blast.

“An Ambitious Tale That Misses the Mark”

I’m not usually one to leave books unfinished, so I powered through and listened to the whole of The Wicked and the Damned. But honestly, I can’t say I enjoyed much of it. The dialogue often felt forced, as if it was trying to be profound or edgy but just didn’t hit the mark, pulling me out of the story rather than drawing me in. The plotlines themselves wandered, and without much clear purpose; they seemed to stretch on without ever really going anywhere meaningful.

One of the biggest issues I had was the lack of connection with the characters. They felt distant and flat, with little emotional depth. I kept waiting for that moment where I’d start to care about their fates or feel drawn into their struggles, but it never happened. Instead, it felt like the book was trying very hard to be dark and intricate, but instead ended up dragging on without delivering any real depth.

Of course, I’ve seen other readers give it positive reviews, so there’s clearly an audience out there who appreciates its style. But for me, it missed the mark. If you’re curious, it may still be worth a try—just know it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it wasn’t mine. No, I’ll stick with a nice earl grey.

My Effin’ Life is a fantastic read and emotional therapy. The book is honest and feels very natural. I read the hard copy when it first came out, as I have with all of Neils’s books too. I devoured it. As a kid, my first 2 cd’s were cd’s I pilfered from my dad’s collection. I’m not sure how it happened, maybe because the alphabetically sorted cd’s in the cd stand on his desk were tall enough that I couldn’t reach most of them, or if it was simply fate…but the two I stole were 2112 and Moving Pictures (at least the only two I remember). At the time I didn’t know who Rush was. It was just music that I loved. 2112 has been my favorite song ever since, roughly 25 years and counting.

When I was not more than 6-7, I distinctly remember recounting to my older brother, “I really like the girl that sings the priests of the temples song” My brother, who at this point was at the very knowledgeable and wise age of 10-11 told me that it was not a girl. I was stunned and had completely pictured multiple singers recounting the story of 2112. Well done Geddy!

Rush has been a constant companion my whole life. Always reliable, a friend, and a feeling that is safe and comfortable. When I realized that Geddy himself narrated the audiobook I did not hesitate to purchase and listen right away.

This book is a treasure. This book is a tribute to all those who sacrificed so much to create Rush. So many people like me have been positively affected by Rush for all of our lives.

After reading this book I have a deeper appreciation and love for all those that have made Rush possible in my life, especially my musical heroes, Geddy, Alex and Neil. The feelings Geddy describes about his childhood bass heroes are the same that I feel towards Geddy. After all, I started playing bass because of him. This memoir truly is a must for any Rush fan, made even better read by the man himself, with some nice Alex cameos in there too. The recordings from the My Favorite Headache sessions were a special treat, that left me, not for the first time while listening, emotionally full and with a tear streaked face.

100% recommend.
