Historia
Celebrated singer Genevieve Dumont is both a star and a smokescreen. An unwilling darling of the Nazis, the chanteuse’s position of privilege allows her to go undetected as an ally to the resistance. When her estranged mother, Lillian de Rocheford, is captured by Nazis, Genevieve knows it won’t be long before the Gestapo succeeds in torturing information out of Lillian that will derail the upcoming allied invasion. The resistance movement is tasked with silencing her by any means necessary - including assassination.

My least favorite book of 2025
Revisado: 12-06-24
i had high hopes for this book, I love historical fiction--particularly WWII. This book was such a disappointment with it's poor story line, and the narration made it worse. Skip this one.

Present day: Manhattan art dealer Sera James watched her world crumble at the altar two years ago, and her heart is still fragile. Her desire for distraction reignites a passion for a mysterious portrait she first saw as a young girl—a painting of a young violinist with piercing blue eyes. The first WWII historical novel that I didn't like
Revisado: 07-09-24
The main characters alternated between being the least likeable antagonist. That combined with the heavy-handed Christian proselytizing, made this book so hard to finish. As a Christian for over 50 years, take it from me. Don't waste your money or time.

Why this Narrator?
Revisado: 01-24-23
The narration in book one was excellent, which makes the horrid narration of this book even worse. I will have to read it because this is unlistenable.

Historia
There’s a wedding on the horizon, and Georgia Carpenter couldn’t be happier. But that doesn’t mean she’s lost sight of everything that still needs to be done to get the Sea Glass Inn ready for opening. Not only is she preparing for that, but the magazine photoshoot is right around the corner, too. As is the town council election. Most people think Travis Taylor, the inn’s handsome handyman, is a shoo-in, but with Lavinia Major as his opponent, anything could happen. And probably will.

Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

Historia
In 1942, the Allies were losing, Germany seemed unstoppable, and every able man in England was on the front lines. To "set Europe ablaze," in the words of Winston Churchill, the Special Operations Executive (SOE), whose spies were trained in everything from demolition to sharpshooting, was forced to do something unprecedented: recruit women. Thirty-nine answered the call, leaving their lives and families to become saboteurs in France.

I was eager to listen to this book, but the terrible narration stopped me at Chaptee 8. I tried. If your book is filled with French words, the narrator should actually be able to pronounce the words. Fingernails on a chalkboard!

A beautifully told story of suffering and survival, yet I would have really liked to have a narrator who doesn't speak in a breathy, juvenile voice. it was so grating at times.
