Historia
Food. There's plenty of it around, and we all love to eat it. So why should anyone need to defend it? Because in the so-called Western diet, food has been replaced by nutrients, and common sense by confusion—most of what we’re consuming today is longer the product of nature but of food science. The result is what Michael Pollan calls the American Paradox: The more we worry about nutrition, the less healthy we see to become.

Poor narration
Revisado: 06-09-24
The narrator is so annoying that I was unable to listen past the first chapter. He uses a very pretentious, seemingly made-up, accent. He is unnecessarily dramatic for the subject matter. His style of narration would be slightly more tolerable if he were reading a novel. When narrating this non-fiction book, I couldn’t get past his voice to hear the important content. This experience was a reminder to always listen to the sample before purchasing a book. I know it is an excellent book by a well-known author. I will have to read the hard copy.

Painful narration
Revisado: 05-11-22
The book was very informative and interesting, but the use of more than one narrator was distracting. The voices sounded odd, like those of sad robots. No one talks this way in real life. I had to fast forward through the vignettes where people stated their regrets in a order to hear the content.

Historia
Sometimes it's tough to be Lucy O'Rourke. Disasters of all sorts seem to seek out this globe-trotting photographer. Whether it's on a raft in Cataract Canyon, a crocodile attack on the Amazon, a hurricane in the Gulf Stream or even the two-legged kind (men), Lucy just can't seem to help making the wrong choice at precisely the wrong moment. This collection of eleven linked stories features the unique blending of romance and adventure that is the trademark of Pam Houston.

Narration is painful
Revisado: 04-01-18
Because I am lazy, I never take the time to write these reviews unless I’m compelled. I like Pam Houston’s writing, but I haven’t actually heard a word, nor really truly, because the narration makes me want to poke my ears out. Slow, depressed, sing songy wah wah wah. No passion. It’s like she’s reading out loud, but thinking about what she’s going to make for dinner.
