Very Technical
Revisado: 08-11-22
I personally like the technical world-building aspect of this story even it does tend to make for a very dry/bland listen after a few hours of scientific experiments with the same set of skills. The main character does progress quite a bit though it doesn’t really present in any noticeable way just yet. Overall I think it’s a good setup to building the MC into somewhat of a future powerhouse so the story should expand nicely.

Historia
Legends speak of wizards with the power to rival Gods. To Hump, it’s just a story. Apprenticed to a wandering wizard, he grew up on the road, following the coin on whatever quest it took them. He always believed his master was just an ordinary hedge wizard, until the old man suddenly died, and his book of spells bound to Hump’s soul. Knowing no other life, Hump takes up his master’s staff and heads out alone into a world of dungeons and monsters. So begins the path of The Wanderer. The White Flame. The Hedge Wizard.

Good Start, Not GameLit
Revisado: 06-28-22
Overall good start to a fantasy story. The MCs have a Royce/Hadrian dynamic that is nice and balanced. This is really just a fantasy though, nothing about this really marks it as GameLit or even Progression Fantasy, as other reviews have said. I’m curious to see how the world pans out because it briefly touches on ranks/tiers of adventurers but nothing is really fleshed out, and the power levels all seem rather nebulous at this stage.

Historia
The apocalypse began on Bring Your Dog to Work Day. One moment, everything was normal. Then the World Core woke up, and slaughtered almost everything alive so it could harvest their Chi. After that, it rebuilt everything and put the survivors in a game-like environment, pitting them against monsters and each other. The rules are different now. Chi power is as important as being able to fight. I'm one of the survivors. With my knowledge of martial arts and my special Chi skill, I'm turning myself into a force to be reckoned with.

Weird
Revisado: 06-26-22
All you really need to know about this book is that you will get a 3 chapter sex scene before either main character even begins to figure out what any of their powers are.
The dialog leading up to it gets more and more cringey and I personally couldn’t get halfway into it before it was returned. Narrators both did a great job but the story itself is weak.

Historia
Felix had risked everything to stop the threat of the Unending Maw. Except instead of death, he and his Companion Pit were transported to the deadly Void, a place far worse than the Foglands. The Maw is there with them, bonded somehow to Felix in a way none of them understand, but all of them hate. The three must navigate the desolate expanse of the dark Void, contending with voidbeasts, marauders, and the creeping influence of the Maw itself. It will take everything that Felix has—and more—merely to survive, let alone escape. All choices have consequences.

Zero Progress Story
Revisado: 06-25-22
I’m holding out hope that something actually progresses the story in the next book otherwise I’ll probably drop this series. MC is just stubborn and stupid in this entry which pretty much drives the whole plot. There is not really any payoff in this book, it’s just the main character making his own life hard while randomly bumbling around beating every fight with luck or by nature of being overpowered without really earning any of it. There is a lot of pieces of story set in motion maybe but you could just as easily skip this entry or summarize the gains in a paragraph or two before the next one.

"No killing Goblins." So reads the sign outside of The Wandering Inn, a small building run by a young woman named Erin Solstice. She serves pasta with sausage, blue fruit juice, and dead acid flies on request. And she comes from another world. Ours. It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. She doesn't belong in a place where monster attacks are a fact of life, and where Humans are one species among many. But she must adapt to her new life. Or die.

Terrible Main Characters
Revisado: 03-27-22
I was hoping eventually to get to some real LITRPG type content, but between one MC acting like a naive child, and one an obnoxious edgy brat who refuses to even accept a class, it’s just a never ending repeat of the same scenarios and tropes with no character progress.
It’s a shame because there is so much world building and fun potential of this world but it’s ruined by only following in the steps of the 2 most unlikeable main characters. Gave up and returned after 20+ hours that neither one of them was ever going to “turn the corner” and that this was more of a teen drama wrapped in a LITRPG world, not an actual LITRPG book.

Historia
Grant Leap is an orphaned, mortal farmhand in a world where cultivation methods and Weapons of Power are jealously guarded and only passed down among family. He’s not content with his lot; as a Januarian, someone living in District January, he should be living the good life just like everyone else. Food, parties, food, entertainment, and food are the minimum requirement. As an orphan, specifically a reviled Leap, there’s not even a chance of being treated as a human.

Sets the bar low
Revisado: 01-27-22
Really hope the MC improves in book 2, he’s a frustrating, unskilled mess. Every fight is basically won by sheer luck and the training rarely ever comes into play. MC also chose to wield a sword but only ever uses the blunt/flat of the blades so we might as well have just given him a baseball bat for all the good it does. The guy freezes up at every surprise interaction so that’s basically every drama moment, “I froze up”, “I couldn’t move”, “I couldn’t do anything but watch”.
I’m hoping this is just setting the bar extremely low for his growth since we have to spread it over what will probably be 12 books but man, it’s a slog if you wanted a competent MC.

MC is boring
Revisado: 06-14-21
The MC never really comes into his own, he’s like a third wheel in his own story the whole time, even though he’s written like he will eventually be useful. The way the authors keep referencing his changes like he’s a super human, but this guy doesn’t do anything, just keeps this weird superior tone with everybody he meets because he can ask basic questions that anybody would ask.
I guess I expected something like a cross between cultivation and space sci-fi but this is really just a guy getting dragged around by people playing his own little tough guy monologue in his head. Even worse is that he just lets everybody get off with changing the subject when it comes to plot details so there’s very minimal about the world revealed.
I’m curious if something will actually happen in book 2, but I’m not hopeful.

Confusing MC
Revisado: 01-02-21
For me, the main character gets more unlikeable with every new iteration of this series. He sounds like a reasonable person on his inner monologue and acts like an emo steroid raged teenager to just be edgy while liberally applying all the #iamverybadass monologues he can, which just is so super cringe. To top it off he is not really exhibiting any character growth even when being blungeoned in the face with how stupid he’s being. I just don’t think it’s realistic that anybody like this guy would have survived this long. Can’t say I really recommend this story anymore, it’s not going anywhere.

Disappointing
Revisado: 11-12-20
Spoilers ahead but here we go.
MC suddenly develops anger issues, and we somehow get even further away from any explanation about the mysterious legacy class. Instead we get a new class that gives us literally nothing so we just continue to use nothing but dark blade for every fight, it’s like some guy playing a fighting game but can’t be bothered to learn combos so just mash X. Can’t talk to the pet now either so we have to use Sela as a translator for literally everything, so humor points all get lost. Instead of interesting monsters, let’s just make some pop culture references and make the rest just impossibly larger and larger, I’m expecting the moon to be an actual golem by book 4. I don’t know where we are going with this story, but I can tell you we didn’t get there in this book. If book 4 doesn’t make some significant strides, I think I’ll not waste anymore credits on this series.

Advised to keep away from the approaching war, Wu Ying will have to decide what is more important - his journey to immortality or the ties to the mortal that he holds onto still. Side Quest
Revisado: 07-31-20
Very much a side quest story. Was hoping for main character progression after such a long time, but it was not to be. Main character is pretty much a narrator in this story, and I found myself liking his former rival more than him. Lots of philosophical type stuff, which is fun for a while, but grows tiresome. The authors notes are nice, since some of the terms were basically nonsensical as a non-Chinese reader for the first 2 books. Hoping the next one picks up, this one did not quite connect for me.
