It opens with the death of John Lennon and goes back to the mid 60s. From there it travels to 2008? Around there at least. It can seem boring around times cause there’s a lot of legal jargon. But it’s needed because it focuses heavily on the breakup of the beatles. But I believe it does it well cause within the legal woes lie their separate careers. And within their personal lives while they had to deal with legal separation of the beatles, they had their own sets of problems. I probably would have gotten bored if I had to read this. But the audiobook format works great. I think this book is important cause other books don’t deal with the after the Beatles journey. Unless it’s separate biographies obv. But it’s nicely done!

I’ve read a lot John Lennon and Beatles biographies. My favorite being by Bob Spitz and one by Mark Lewisohn. Cynthia knew John the longest other than maybe the other Beatles. It’s not a secret that John wasn’t as peace loving as he appeared to be. But to hear it from her and her perspective ties in well with the other biographies. It fills in the blanks of what John was like after the Beatles were done in the recording studio, or after a gig or tour. When he was just home. John had always been my favorite Beatle for his music. I’ve grown up since discovering their music when I was around 13. I’ve learned that they are only people with faults. Even if you want to transcend them to God status. But it’s a great read/listen. I’d highly recommend this book!
The only negative I have was there were a few times that sentences were read twice. I don’t know what was up with that.

I found that about the last 2 hours were interesting. Or had a few interesting stories to get yourself motivated to create. Over all It wasn’t horrible. But I’ll probably exchange my credit for something different.

The performance I gave 5 stars for over all, but it was kinda iffy in the beginning.

Anyways! I think it’s worth the listen. I was really hesitant to listening to this book. But there’s isn’t a full biography on The Beach Boys available other than the autobiographical ones. In regards to what audible carries. Mike Love gets a bad reputation in The Beach Boys overall history. At time you understand why this reputation comes about. Having to deal with Brian, the record labels, lawyers. He is often over shadowed by Brian Wilson. I’m at fault for believing the stories I’ve read. But I feel Mike Love is truthful in his book.

I think it’s a good book overall. But with that said it’s only good because I’ve ready other books about The Beatles. Most of the time the bio felt summarized. What it lacked I was able fill in the gaps from my previous knowledge. Trying to cover 4 people and their history in a single book is a daunting task, but possible. I’ve read the Bob Spitz bio on The Beatles, and is great as a single volume. And “Tune In” which will be 3 volumes once completed. The first volume is AMAZING! But this book I’m not sure exactly what it was trying to be. It was part bio, and part music theory. The bio side I feel like if this was your first introduction to the beatles it’d be okay. As I said above it felt summarized, especially the early years. Though I know it wasn’t trying to be the same book. But “Tune In” has spoiled me.

Before I listened to this I re-read (well listened this time around) to Mark Lewisohn's TUNE IN: THE BEATLES: ALL THESE YEARS. Until his Vol.2 comes out I think this book by Steve Turner fits in great. Its hits on Rubber Soul, Revolver, and to the early makings of what would become Sgt. Pepper! I highly recommend this book!

I bought the book before I started using audible. I hadn’t read the book yet, but I found it on here and loved it! Some reviewers didn’t like the narrator, but he was good I thought. I don’t regret this purchase and would listen again!
