This book is awful
Revisado: 01-04-23
This book was written by someone that recently discovered a thesaurus. Saying something eloquently does not mean that one must use obscure language. Furthermore, the narrator's tone doesn't jive with me. I burn through a lot of audiobooks, but this, by far, is the worst one I have ever encountered. Amazon recomended it - but it wasn't a match. I was going to give it a 2-star rating, but when you hover over a 2-star - it suggests it was OK - this book is just bad.

Historia
Today we think statistics are the enemy, numbers used to mislead and confuse us. That’s a mistake, Tim Harford says in The Data Detective. We shouldn’t be suspicious of statistics - we need to understand what they mean and how they can improve our lives: they are, at heart, human behavior seen through the prism of numbers and are often “the only way of grasping much of what is going on around us”.

Just another Brit that complaining about us politics
Revisado: 07-04-21
Don’t buy the book - just listen to his podcasts from the bottom up. His British perspective on the US is annoying. The podcasts have fewer political digs. He talks about numbers but doesn’t seem to understand our electoral college. His opinion on voting is absurd - just look at NYCs weighted voting - it makes a simple too complex and prone to error.

Historia
Malcolm Gladwell, author of New York Times best sellers including Talking to Strangers and host of the podcast Revisionist History, uses original interviews, archival footage, and his trademark insight to weave together the stories of a Dutch genius and his homemade computer, a band of brothers in Central Alabama, a British psychopath, and pyromaniacal chemists at Harvard. As listeners hear these stories unfurl, Gladwell examines one of the greatest moral challenges in modern American history.

This is an amazing production
Revisado: 07-04-21
I grew up in a small (population ~10,00) TX town. Our tv would blow up due to lightning strikes on the rooftop antenna. Because of this I listened to radio shows for entertainment, but as I moved on and away from the great state, radio programs were hard to find.
Gladwell outdid himself. The production of this work is unlike anything I have ever heard. The Air Force now reminds me of the Apple slogan: "Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes ... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. ... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things. ... They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do."

An Amazing addition to the kindle book
Revisado: 02-08-19
I often like to listen and read the books I purchase. I was initially annoyed that this book didn't synchronize with the Kindle version. Then I realized it is different, it is richer. Brené is a storyteller and this version of the book exemplifies her talents as an orator. If you like her work - get both.

An exceptional overview - I am not a mason

This is inspirational to those trying to make sense of its secrets and traditions.

Dan is a legend - you think his writing is good...
Revisado: 05-20-18
Dan, Is a star in the Harvard Program on Negotiations (PON). I just had a class with him this last week. He doesn't just teach, but also listens. He practices what he preaches, which is rare. I walked away from that course knowing I had learned something from everyone but I learned the most from Dan.
While, I am still perplexed by the ethical problem that he proposed as a final exercise - hell I am still thinking about it - maybe that was his lesson, maybe not - it doesn't really matter. He did something right if that is the only thing I walked away with.
I bought this today - will start it today but with him as both the author and narrator I am pretty darn confident that he will exceed expectations. Do note that Dan is a self trained magician - expect a surprise. Happy listening!
