Historia
Mickey Haller gets the text, "Call me ASAP - 187," and the California penal code for murder immediately gets his attention. Murder cases have the highest stakes and the biggest paydays, and they always mean Haller has to be at the top of his game. When Mickey learns that the victim was his own former client, a prostitute he thought he had rescued and put on the straight and narrow path, he knows he is on the hook for this one. He soon finds out that she was back in LA and back in the life.

Historia
Silence has fallen. The Psy are free to feel emotion. Free to love. But Silence was never a prison for Ivan Mercant. The biggest threat to his future lies dormant in his brain—a psychic monster that wants only to feed. And now, the brutal leash he's kept on that monster is slipping. He prepared for the end of Ivan Mercant, but that was before he met Lei. As primal as she is human, this wild changeling brings color into his life. Then the dream shatters in a rain of blood. Lei is gone. Vanished without a trace—until he meets familiar eyes across a busy San Francisco street.

Terrifying...
Revisado: 04-22-22
Very well done. Scary to see how unregulated this field is. Very upset about the justice dealt and hope for change. Feel so bad for the families and friends affected by this greed.
And then I think about all the missing people out there...

Historia
VBI (Vermont Bureau of Investigation) head Joe Gunther and his team are called in to investigate a series of violent deaths that appear unrelated until telltale clues reveal a linkage between them and that all of the deaths are, in fact, murders. However, apart from a single drop of unexplained blood left at each crime scene, there are no obvious connections between the victims or the cases. In the search for the elusive truth, the VBI must plumb the depths of every suspect's past.

So unfulfilling. When I read a mystery from a detective or private investigator's pov, i want investigation! Clues, slippery partners, interesting suspects, twists & turns, and if possible, a shock ending. this had none of that...none.
Additionally, if you put "magic" in a title, have it be pretty damn magical. A spell here and a freaking pensive there doesn't make a story magical
This book committed all of the above along with the cardinal sin for a standalone (for me, at least). An unresolved plot. Everything is left unanswered, so I ask what was the point of me reading the book? Not even trying to be bratty, but seriously. Why? Nothing got resolved... Ugh. Aggravated. I would have rather had her never catch the killer then end the way it did.

Historia
Lieutenant Joe Gunther is in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom investigating a minor embezzling case. It's a pleasant distraction and a chance to reconnect with old friends, but when a house fire reveals itself to be arson, compounded by murder, Gunther can't help but investigate. He quickly finds himself enmeshed in a web of animosity between put-upon townspeople, the state police, angry parents, and members of a reclusive sect.

Revisado: 03-12-20
Kind of an odd experience. I love the narration. I love the world building. I love the storytelling ... mostly.
Everything feels good about the story until you hit about 75%. And then the resolution comes a bit haphazardly. Very quickly with a lackluster aha moment. I'm also not sold on Joe. He's a good lead but also doesn't really seem to be putting in the effort. And in this one, he talked to much. As seasoned as he is, and feels, it's at odds with the character he's supposed to be.
I'm sticking with it for a bit though. They've got a nice rhythm.

Revisado: 06-25-18
A new Dresden novel/novella/short story always feels like meeting up with a new friend.
I absolutely loved this book. I especially liked Marcone's story and Zoo Day. The Zoo Day story (a single event told from three perspectives was especially interesting. Molly's stories were really interesting too.
Overall, I'd give this a huge thumbs up!!! I want Peace Talks even more 😭😭😭😭

Historia
In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Revisado: 05-01-18
While i enoyed this book, it was a bit of a chore. i am not sure I understood all that happened due to its complexity. but it's and excellent book with wonderful world building and interesting characters.
so did i like it? i am not sure. but i will finish the tirology and definitely will read the supplementary text to understand more. that's my main complaint. too much "new" in one book: new world, new rules, new faith, new races, new new new.
