Historia
A decade ago, Tokyo Police Detective Kyoichiro Kaga went to collect the ashes of his recently deceased mother. Years before, she ran away from her husband and son without explanation or any further contact, leaving her estranged son with many unanswered questions. Now in Tokyo, Michiko Oshitani is found dead many miles from home. Strangled to death, left in the bare apartment rented under a false name by a man who has disappeared without a trace. Oshitani lived far away in Sendai, with no known connection to Tokyo—and neither her family nor friends have any idea why she would have gone there.

Good Keigo story but not his best
Revisado: 02-24-24
Well worth the read. I rank it below a few others he’s written. For reference Malice and The Devotion of Suspect X are my two favorites. If you like the author definitely give this one a read/listen. But don’t expect it to be in the same tier as the two I mentioned.

Group Chat/ Text Messages are Fine
Revisado: 09-28-22
Several reviews talk about the text messages and group chat and how they were difficult to follow. i disagree. they are easy to follow. This is especially true after to get to know the characters a little more. I don't think you need a written copy to accompany.
As far as the story goes: I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of the series and there is no drop off in quality here. the story was entertaining, the mystery was a good one, and Strike and Robin continue to shine as characters. overall, five stars.

Historia
It's winter in the Catskills and Mitchell's Inn, nestled deep in the woods, is the perfect setting for a relaxing—maybe even romantic—weekend away. So when the weather takes a turn for the worse, and a blizzard cuts off the electricity—and all contact with the outside world—the guests settle in and try to make the best of it. Soon, though, one of the guests turns up dead—it looks like an accident. But when a second guest dies, they start to panic. Within the snowed-in paradise, something—or someone—is picking off the guests one by one.

narration takes a moment to get used to
Revisado: 07-10-21
No spoilers here. A take on the classic locked room mystery. The story is solid and fun to try to figure who is the culprit. The narration is jarring for the first few minutes. It sounds like it's being narrated by Siri or your maps navigation app at first. You kinda get used to it after a few minutes and then it's no big deal. Definitely not a reason to avoid this audiobook in my opinion. Plus the narration gets better as more characters are introduced and different voices are used. All in all, I enjoyed it.

Historia
Acclaimed best-selling novelist Kunihiko Hidaka is found brutally murdered in his home on the night before he’s planning to leave Japan and relocate to Vancouver. His body is found in his office, a locked room, within his locked house, by his wife and his best friend, both of whom have rock solid alibis. Or so it seems.

This was a surprisingly good book. I hadn't heard of the author or book before and happen to see it on a recommendations list. The performance is well done and the story is superb.

Historia
Richard Papen had never been to New England before his 19th year. Then he arrived at Hampeden College and quickly became seduced by the sweet, dark rhythms of campus life—in particular by an elite group of five students, Greek scholars, worldly, self-assured, and at first glance, highly unapproachable. Yet as Richard was accepted and drawn into their inner circle, he learned a terrifying secret that bound them to one another...a secret about an incident in the woods in the dead of night where an ancient rite was brough to brutal life...and lead to a gruesome death.

good story and a note on narration
Revisado: 05-23-21
The story is very good, I think most reviewers agree. Many reviewers dislike the narration but I had zero problem with the narration. I was apprehensive given some of the reviews, but they are over blown. The narration works well.
My guess is their gripe is with the voice choice for one character in particular but I think it matches the character's personality so I enjoyed it.

a pleasant surprise
Revisado: 12-22-20
I had never heard of this author or this book prior to doing some research on what book to look into next. somebody online mentioned it was pretty good and the description they laid out intrigued me. I read the publisher's description and decided to give it try. it started off a tab slow but I kept with it and was rewarded. the characters were well developed, which is part of the slow start-- foundation setting isn't always exciting but it pays off. once the crime was revealed and the main character began detecting, I was enthralled. I hope this becomes a series and I look forward to the next one.

long but worth it
Revisado: 12-19-20
I read the first half years ago and never finished and always wanted to go back. knowing I'd have to start over and since it's a long book, I always seemed to put it off. finally came back to the book and I absolutely enjoyed it throughly. some people hate the ending and I was concerned but there's no need for concern. it's a solid ending.
