Historia
Beth Pickering is on the verge of finally capturing the rare deathwhistler bird when Professor Devon Lockley swoops in, stealing both her bird and her imagination like a villain. Albeit a handsome and charming villain, but that's beside the point. As someone highly educated in the ruthless discipline of ornithology, Beth knows trouble when she sees it, and she is determined to keep her distance from Devon.

A story of most tender love wrapped in fun and smartly silly language. Read by the most astute narrator.

Historia
When the firm of Meadows, Meade & Grindley hires Dougal Douglas (a.k.a. Douglas Dougal) to do "human research" into the private lives of its workforce, they are in no way prepared for the mayhem, mutiny, and murder he will stir up. In fact, this Music Man of the thoroughly modern corporation changes the lives of all the eccentric characters he meets, from Miss Merle Coverdale, head of the typing pool, to V.R. Druce, unsuspecting Managing Director.

Narcissism unchecked
Revisado: 05-30-24
My least favorite of Muriel Spark's books... billed as her most humorous, the deceitful antics of Dougal Douglas are in fact harmful and abusive to those whose sphere he invades.

Useful Lunar Wisdom
Revisado: 11-06-22
In another information-filled book, Thalia Thorne offers up loads of history, myth, and superstition of the moon. The stories are followed by a series of simple, clear, and mostly affordable spells, each aligned with the most effective phases of the moon. A must-have if you're interested in aligning/magnifying/realizing your intentions with the moon cycles.

In this personal, eloquently-argued essay—adapted from the much-admired TEDx talk of the same name—Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie offers readers a unique definition of feminism for the twenty-first century. Drawing extensively on her own experiences and her deep understanding of the often masked realities of sexual politics, here is one remarkable author’s exploration of what it means to be a woman now—and an of-the-moment rallying cry for why we should all be feminists.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has extracted many of the most important points in gendered issues & highlights them clearly with real-world experiences had every day. ... & to hear her read it with her own prosody is just beautiful!

Historia
For 20 years, the Palomas and the Corbeaus have been rivals and enemies, locked in an escalating feud for over a generation. Both families make their living as traveling performers in competing shows - the Palomas swimming in mermaid exhibitions, the Corbeaus, former tightrope walkers, performing in the tallest trees they can find. Lace Paloma may be new to her family's show, but she knows as well as anyone that the Corbeaus are pure magia negra - black magic from the devil himself.

beautiful...
Revisado: 09-28-19
Beautiful story. Beautiful language. I loved this. My only issue was the male narrator's French pronunciation. Not only was it clear that he doesn't speak French, but it was clear that he didn't have good coaching for the handful of French he was required to speak.

full of inconsistencies... & whiny performance
Revisado: 04-04-18
Wow. The narration grets worse and worse, with the protagonist now always sounding like a weak, whiny baby. I really dislike her by now, but primarily because of the narration. However, the story has more and more inconsistencies too. Disappointing when I started out so excited by these characters.
