Historia
The stories in Five-Carat Soul - none of them ever published before - spring from the place where identity, humanity, and history converge. They’re funny and poignant, insightful and unpredictable, imaginative and authentic - all told with McBride’s unrivaled storytelling skill and meticulous eye for character and detail. McBride explores the ways we learn from the world and the people around us. An antiques dealer discovers that a legendary toy commissioned by Civil War General Robert E. Lee now sits in the home of a black minister in Queens.

A great story
Revisado: 06-15-24
I enjoy a good read. One that flows seamlessly. This book took me into the lives of the characters and I believed it all. The story line…initially I was confused but then…he laid it out bit by bit. I am a fan of James McBride obviously!

Traversing a wide range of settings—including the jazz clubs of Harlem, expansive natural landscapes, and seaside taverns—Hughes’s voice as a poet ties these various places together.

My listening pleasure
Revisado: 12-07-23
I first read this 20 years ago. I was not really a fantasy enthusiast. Mystery yes! This 1st book of the Incarnations lead me to every single subsequent book! The allegory is undisputable! I love it. The reader has a soothing voice while talking about death. The tragedy of how death got his job and the deception depicted as necessary is slightly humorous! well worth reading again but thankfully I can hear it while doing whatever whenever! just wish Bearing a hourglass and with tangled skein were also on audible. I look forward to listening to the entire series collection.
