Historia
For a thousand years, Doro has cultivated a small African village, carefully breeding its people in search of seemingly unattainable perfection. He survives through the centuries by stealing the bodies of others, a technique he has so thoroughly mastered that nothing on Earth can kill him. But when a gang of New World slavers destroys his village, ruining his grand experiment, Doro is forced to go west and begin anew. He meets Anyanwu, a centuries-old woman whose means of immortality are as kind as his are cruel. Now they begin a struggle that will last centuries.

Amazing Imagination
Revisado: 04-21-25
Very interesting story, great performance--nothing to dislike about this one. Ms. Butler has such a great imagination that defies the logical boundaries of the real world, or maybe introduces her fantasy worlds into our own in such a way it seems almost real.

Kind of Meh
Revisado: 04-06-25
While it wasnʻt excruciating, it wasnʻt exactly riveting either. Predictable, stereotypical, and unremarkable is how I would describe the book. This is my first Nora Roberts story and it kind of baffles (and disturbs) me how popular a writer she is. I imagine anyone with a little imagination and effort can write these types of books, but hey who am I to criticize. Nevertheless, Iʻll stick to more creative and talented writers.

Historia
The epic and highly anticipated conclusion to the listener-favorite series that had countless Audible listeners (and employees) hooked from the very first Bob - featuring, as always, a flawless performance from the inimitable Ray Porter. Being a sentient spaceship really should be more fun. But after spreading out through space for almost a century, Bob and his clones just can't stay out of trouble. They've created enough colonies so humanity shouldn't go extinct.

Predictable
Revisado: 02-26-25
First off you have to be aware of the strong Scottish accent and the vernacular--aside from that itʻs almost engaging. But I was a little disappointed as it was a bit too drawn out as well as predictable at the end.

Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Almost, Almost There!
Revisado: 02-17-25
I really wanted to give this a better review because I think the story is quite good. However, the narration is so low-key and lackluster that it takes away from the experience. Sure, I get it that they were trying to portray the main character as kind of a social misfit and somewhat autistic but really lacked the energy to feel much empathy with him. What doesnʻt help is the recording is quite low so I had to jack up the sound to make up for the low key read. I canʻt continue with the same performance even though I kind of want to.

To add to the surprise, he is now a sentient computer and the controlling intelligence for a Von Neumann probe. Bob and his copies have been spreading out from Earth for 40 years now, looking for habitable planets. But that's the only part of the plan that's still in one piece.

Entertaining and Mature
Revisado: 01-23-25
FINALLY, a series that could possibly be labeled as YA, but intelligent and smart enough for adults! You donʻt have any adolescent angst and sappy romance that characterizes the popular books that have been made into popular movies, and thereʻs enough action and mystery to keep the story going. My only criticism about the books is the lack of critical thinking that the main character and his friends exhibit. They never seem to be thinking ahead (for instance, from the very beginning no one ever thought to ask where the other of the 5 children were--youʻd think if they needed to be together someone would have at least inquired if they were even contemporary to the time, which wasnʻt made clear).
But aside that that Iʻm very much enjoying the books and will see how long I can continue.

Best Fun Book in Ages!
Revisado: 12-22-24
If I could give Ray Porter more than 5 stars I would! I can listen to anything he performs--I loved him in Project Hail Mary. There is nothing more satisfying than a good story with a great reader, and this book is the perfect combination. This is the first time in a long while that Iʻve immediately purchased the next in the series and I intend to listen to every one of the books. I am super critical when it comes to audiobooks (especially ones Iʻve purchased at full price) but this series is well worth the time and money!

Historia
Sassinak was 12 when the raiders came. That made her just the right age: old enough to be used, young enough to be broken. Or so the slavers thought. But Sassy turned out to be a little different from your typical slave girl. Maybe it was her unusual physical strength. Maybe it was her friendship with the captured Fleet crewman. Maybe it was her spirit. Whatever it was, it wouldn’t let her resign herself to the life of a slave. She bided her time, watched for her moment. Finally it came, and she escaped. But that was only the beginning for Sassinak.

Never mind the series
Revisado: 10-31-24
This book started off fairly strong--hints of the old "Dragonflight" series from McCaffrey, but about halfway through I realized I had lost complete interest in the characters or the plot. The story is WAYYYY longer than it should be and I can't believe this is part of a series. The main character is unbelievable--she is supposed to be a strong, intelligent woman but turns passive-aggressive and tiresome with her obvious statements. Not for me, but maybe if I was still 15...?
