Historia
100,000 years ago the object hit the lake at the deepest point, quickly sinking into its mile-deep Stygian darkness. The sheets of ice closed, time moved on and the land forgot. But over the centuries, legends grew of people vanishing, of strange, deformed animals and of an unexplained luminescence down in the lake depths. When Marcus Stenson won the lucrative contract to create a sturgeon fish farm on the site of disused paper mill on the shore of Lake Baikal, he thought he had won the lottery and refused to listen to the chilling folktales....

Fantastic Story
Revisado: 08-30-23
Love this story. Chills all through the second half.
Slow start though. I'm used to a very different narration style, and this felt somewhat flat at first until the story got me properly hooked, and then I started to hear his style and it fits very well.

Fantastic
Revisado: 09-25-22
I really enjoyed the style of writing used throughout the book. The ability of the 1st person perspective to add humor to an otherwise murderously grim universe is a wonderful change of pace, as is the frequently self-depreciating character of Cain himself. We get a lot of intentional heroes in 40k - it's nice to see an accidental one as a sort of comedy of errors that turns out to the benefit of the Imperium.

The alien t’au, though few in number, greatly outclass the soldiers of the Imperium and are taking a serious toll on their forces. A call for aid is answered by the fearsome Mortifactors Chapter, who come to the world full of grim purpose. Adoni, an unblooded neophyte yet to earn his place, is amongst the war party. Laudable
Revisado: 09-15-20
I think this book is quite excellent. It gives some insight into a less explored chapter, and builds a fantastic character who I would love to see given an expanded series. St. Martin does a good job pacing the book, and the narrators all read their roles skillfully.

fantastic novel, well read and well performed. John brings his skill in aotrycrafting to the fore and created a detailed and only sometimes predictable dance of story for the imagination.
