Historia
Dr. Tyson Klein is a quantum physicist who has dedicated his entire life to his research. At CERN, he analyses data generated by the Large Hadron Collider, the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. Now, Ty believes he's found a pattern in its output. It looks like an organised data stream, being broadcast over what he calls a quantum radio. Could it be a signal from another universe? A message sent from the future? Or something else entirely?

Seriously read it
Revisado: 10-11-24
I started Quantum Radio thinking, “This book’s got to be fire.” And let me tell you—it didn’t disappoint. As I was reading, there were moments where I wasn’t sure what was happening, but in the best way possible. The twists and turns kept me guessing, and I couldn’t stop because I just had to know where it was going.
Let’s talk about the audiobook first because it was top-tier. The narrator really nailed it—not just Ty’s voice but all the characters. The emotion, the pacing, the intensity—it all fit perfectly with the story. It was like watching a full-length movie in my head. There’s multiverse stuff going on, and while Ty himself doesn’t meet a multiversal counterpart, other characters do. The way the narrator handles those shifts between characters from different universes makes it easy to feel the differences in their lives. The narration is a huge part of what kept me hooked.
As for the characters, they’re all so well done. Ty’s journey is solid, but Kato is the real standout for me. His arc is powerful, and what he goes through in the story really hit me. Then there’s Nora—she’s just as fascinating, and her role adds a lot to the overall story. All the characters feel real and fleshed out, which makes their stories even more compelling.
The plot itself reminds me of Sliders, but it feels bigger. It’s got that multiverse feel, mixed with science, alternate history, and espionage. It’s like a movie playing out in your mind, and I found myself listening to the audiobook whenever I could—at work, in the car, even sneaking time in the bathroom. That’s how good it was.
If you love multiverse stories, alternate history, or just good old-fashioned sci-fi, this book is for you. It hooked me from start to finish, and I’m out here trying to get other people into it too. Quantum Radio is a hit.

Eveen the Eviscerator is skilled, discreet, professional, and here for your most pressing needs in the ancient city of Tal Abisi. Her guild is strong, her blades are sharp, and her rules are simple. Those sworn to the Matron of Assassins—resurrected, deadly, wiped of their memories—have only three unbreakable vows. First, the contract must be just. That’s above Eveen’s pay grade. Second, even the most powerful assassin may only kill the contracted. The third and the simplest: once you accept a job, you must carry it out.

Shout out to my dead cats reading this!
Revisado: 09-12-24
Alright, so boom. The Dead Cat Tail Assassins by P. Djèlí Clark is an absolute banger, and as a fan of Clark’s work, I gotta say, he did not disappoint with this one. If you’ve read his other books, you know he’s meticulous with his research, and even though this is set in a fantasy world, that same level of commitment is all over the world-building here. The setting feels alive, like a place where other stories could unfold. It’s immersive and well-thought-out, giving the impression that there’s more history behind the scenes, but we’re just following this one particular tale.
The main character was a standout for me, and what really hit is how Clark moves the story along at a quick pace without sacrificing character development. That balance is hard to strike, but Clark nailed it. His writing style? Witty, for sure. Every character has a unique voice, and even though the book is written in third person, it’s so close to the protagonist that you feel like you’re inside her head. You get the intimacy of first person, but with the flexibility of third person. Clark mastered that, and it definitely enhanced my experience with the book.
The plot kicks off with an assassin on a mission, which could feel predictable, but Clark still managed to surprise me. He answered some of the burning questions right away but introduced even more intriguing mysteries. It’s a classic assassination plot, sure, but the way it unfolds kept me engaged. The back-and-forth between Avin and Skye? Chef’s kiss. I loved their dynamic, and it added layers to the story that I wasn’t expecting.
When it comes to the pacing, everything flowed so well. The action, the twists, and the character moments all hit at just the right time. I was never left hanging or feeling like things dragged. It’s a book you can sink into easily, and for anyone who’s a fan of speculative fiction with Black people at the forefront, this is for you. At times, it felt a bit YA, but in the best way possible—accessible, fast-paced, and fun, but with depth and strong character development.
One major highlight for me was the dialogue. There’s a character who unexpectedly speaks Jamaican Patois, and that just blew me away. The audio version is on point, too—the narrator deserves their flowers for bringing the story to life in a way that had me hooked. Honestly, if anyone else had narrated it, I might not have been as invested, but they made this story sing.
Overall, The Dead Cat Tail Assassins is a must-read. It’s quick, it’s sharp, and it’s full of characters you’ll love spending time with. Clark’s world-building is as solid as ever, and if you’re into witty dialogue, immersive settings, and speculative fiction that centers Black characters, do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Historia
It is 1937, and Laura Ann Langston lives in an America divided—between those who work the mystical arts and those who do not. Ever since the Great Rust, a catastrophic event that blighted the arcane force called the Dynamism and threw America into disarray, the country has been rebuilding for a better future. And everyone knows the future is industry and technology—otherwise known as Mechomancy—not the traditional mystical arts.

Revisado: 09-06-24
Rust in the Root by Justina Ireland is a phenomenal read that pulls you in with its rich characters and immersive world-building. The characters feel incredibly real, and their motivations are clear and relatable, which is a testament to Ireland's skill as a storyteller. While the shift between first-person and third-person perspectives took me a moment to get used to, it quickly became seamless as the narrative unfolded. The alternating perspectives make sense in the context of the story, and once I adjusted, it felt natural.
The magic system in Rust in the Root is another highlight, drawing heavily from African American folklore, specifically Hoodoo. This grounding in real cultural traditions adds depth and authenticity to the fantastical elements, making them even more captivating. One of the things I truly admire about Justina Ireland is her ability to weave significant moments from Black history into her speculative fiction, and this book is no exception. It's a seamless blend of historical realities and magical elements that elevates the narrative.
Overall, Rust in the Root is an exceptional read, and I highly recommend it. It's a five-star novel that showcases Justina Ireland at her best.

The fourth book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Cibola Burn sees the crew of the Rocinante on a new frontier, as the rush to colonize the new planets threatens to outrun law and order and give way to war and chaos. Enter a new frontier. "An empty apartment, a missing family, that's creepy. But this is like finding a military base with no one on it. Fighters and tanks idling on the runway with no drivers. This is bad juju. Something wrong happened here. What you should do is tell everyone to leave".

Revisado: 04-05-24
Narration: Jefferson Mays – A Symphony of Voices
In the world of audiobook narration, few can claim the mastery and artistry of Jefferson Mays. His work in this series stands as a testament to his incredible talent. With a narrative voice that seamlessly morphs to embody each character, Mays ensures you're never lost in the sea of personalities. His skill in differentiating characters is impeccable; it’s like listening to a one-man theatre. The new characters, though they take their time to grow on you, are vividly brought to life. Mays’ narration is nothing short of spectacular, meriting a resounding five out of five stars for his performance.
The Good: Stellar Writing and Captivating Characters
James S.A. Corey’s "The Expanse" series is a journey through genres, each book unfolding a new layer and a different style. This latest entry, akin to a space western, strays from my favored genre yet manages to captivate with its unique charm. The series’ core, the allure of space and interstellar intrigue, remains intact, even as the story weaves through the terrestrial narratives.
What truly stands out are the characters – Havelock, Elvie, Basha – each meticulously crafted and deeply engaging. Basha, in particular, emerges as a standout, embodying the series' knack for creating memorable and complex personalities. Elvie's journey is equally remarkable, showcasing Corey’s skill in character development.
The Bad: A Slight Deviation from Expectation
Though the book excels in many aspects, it diverges from the initial allure that drew me to the series – the expansive and intricate space opera elements. The focus on ground-level events, while expertly executed, was a shift from the expected trajectory of the series. However, this change in pace and scenery is not without its own merits.
Verdict: A Testament to Consistent Quality
Rating this book as the “worst” in the series feels unjust, as it still stands tall with an impressive 8.5/10. This speaks volumes about the consistent quality and immersive storytelling that James S.A. Corey brings to the table. Even in a series where expectations are astronomically high, this entry holds its ground with a compelling narrative and rich characterization.
Anticipation for the Future
The series has built a trust that each new book, each new character introduced, is a piece of a larger, mesmerizing puzzle. This latest book has done nothing but reinforce that trust. As a fan, the wait for the next chapter in this epic saga is filled with eager anticipation, hoping to dive back into the cosmic depths of "The Expanse" series.

The whole book took place over a month.
Revisado: 04-24-22
So firstly, the world building is phenomenal. Beautiful prose let's us really feel like this is a world with history. I love the characters and felt like I could have known them in real life. And the performance was inspired I love the different voices and how she used accents.
Now for the bad. There's alot of telling and not showing. We are told So much that I'm suprised it got past a editor. The book takes place over a month. Within that month:
-the protagonist gets a proposal from her childhood lover to leave before getting conscripted into a child army
-lies to a suicidal friend that she'll come back and we litterally never hear from that friend again.
-she gets conscripted and leaves her only family her grandfather,
-her first test from the bad guys is to kill her childhood love she kills him and he sometimes crosses her mind later in the book
-the bad guys put her through hell and starve her
- she makes reluctant friends in the child army. 3 in total
The protagonist gets whipped because she was soft on a mission
-they plan to steal something from the bad guys,
-One of the friends gets assaulted and they cover it up
-They find the thing and two friends get caught and are literally never heard from again.
-the protagonist gets caught by one of the bad guys but this bad guy is hot and keeps her secret.
-the hot bad guy who's apart of the same org that made her kill her first love and whipped her and commits genocide on a daily of her people has a moment with the protagonist. They have a fade to black scene.
-time skip where we skip the protagonists lasts trials and she's given the macguffin items in order to start the final mission with hot guy
-the bad people make protagonist kill last friend with her bare hands.
-she's gets double crossed by the hot guy and he litterally puts her in chains.
-another seemingly allied person is evil and also her father.
- he's been planning this behind the scenes and promised hot guy his sister would be freed even though the orginal plan he made with protagonist would have had his sister be freed.
-Protagonist has confrontation with father. And an African God becomes the ex machina that allows the protagonist to break out of her magic chains.
-Then the God talks to her
-The end
I was taken out by so much but the whole book happening in a month just doesn't make sense. And then her falling for the hot guy who's evil and eventually double crosses her just is dumb. I almost DNF'd at the time skip.
I hope if there's a sequel it's better.

Best. Vampire. Book. Ever.
Revisado: 12-05-21
So firstly, I was given a review copy in exchange for my review.
[No spoilers]
That being said this is my favorite vampire series ever and this third part of the trilogy was so long awaited. Was the book worth the wait? SUCK YES.
The characters we love are here and most get so many cool character moments that it makes me happy that I re read the series in anticipation! I remember all the call backs and loved how they interacted with the new characters.
The action was good as always. I love how the action led into the world building and even small character moments.
The weaving of the pandemic into the story was a stroke of genius and made sense for the world created.
All in all. This was a home run of a third book and I patiently wait for more from these characters in the United States of monsters.
