What is it like to be a preacher or rabbi who no longer believes in God? In this expanded and updated edition of their groundbreaking study, Daniel C. Dennett and Linda LaScola comprehensively and sensitively expose an inconvenient truth that religious institutions face in the new transparency of the information age - the phenomenon of clergy who no longer believe what they publicly preach.

Enlightening insight...
Revisado: 12-06-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Caught in the Pulpit to be better than the print version?
I can't say it is better than the print version, I don't have it. However, I did enjoy having both Mr. Dennett and Ms. LaScola narrate their own sections of the book.
What did you like best about this story?
It was enlightening to see how different clergy handled the loss of their faith. That some ran from the pulpit, some were open to the congregations and some remained in the closet. And to hear about how they were treated both good and bad...
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
They were both great, and I love when the authors read their work, they are the only ones that can vocally express their points accurately.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This was a good book to listen to in sections. The sections seemed to be broken up well and the story, though related, is not continuous to a degree that you need to remember all of the names and details throughout.

The adoption of the landmark Voting Rights Act in 1965 enfranchised millions of Americans and is widely regarded as the crowning achievement of the civil rights movement. Yet fifty years later, we are still fighting heated battles over race, representation, and political power - over the right to vote, the central pillar of our democracy. A groundbreaking narrative history of voting rights since 1965, Give Us the Ballot tells the story of what happened after the act was passed.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book would depend on the friend. It is not for the faint of heart, or the non-political person. My brother and best friend would love the political detail and path of the Voting Rights Act, but my wife would shoot me for recommending she listen to it.
What other book might you compare Give Us the Ballot to and why?
Any Presidential biography, a bit dry, but to be expected from a work of this nature.
What about Tom Zingarelli’s performance did you like?
Mr. Zingarelli had a wonderful voice and performance of the detailed historical information. Not too boring, but not too flamboyant.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The VRA...

Good length
Revisado: 12-06-16
Where does Free: Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book is in no way in my even my top 10. Not to say it is a bad book, but it is anecdotal and it's secretive nature means it will never be verified...
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Nothing in this book was overly enlightening, but the book was entertaining to the last page, well performed, though the character seems detached throughout.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Mr. Penn was a great voice to the character, he portrays a personality that is somewhat detached and almost numb at times.
If you could rename Free: Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff, what would you call it?
A possibly unbelievable life and times of one Bob Honey.

Over the course of his 60 years, Christopher Hitchens has been a citizen of both the United States and the United Kingdom. He has been both a socialist opposed to the war in Vietnam and a supporter of the U.S. war against Islamic extremism in Iraq. He has been both a foreign correspondent in some of the world's most dangerous places and a legendary bon vivant with an unquenchable thirst for alcohol and literature.

Revisado: 10-11-15
If you could sum up Hitch-22 in three words, what would they be?
Enlightening
Impressive
Expressive
What other book might you compare Hitch-22 to and why?
Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography
What about Christopher Hitchens’s performance did you like?
I just love his voice and am thankful he recorded this memoir so future generations can hear in his own words what made this great man develop into the juggernaut he would become.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The Making of a Juggernaut of Reason
Any additional comments?
I would listen to the book through a headset, Christopher (he hated the shrinking of his name to Chris) using inflection in his voice to convey meaning and feeling. Some of the inflections are drastic and can get lost in a room with ambient noise.

Well worth the time...
Revisado: 08-24-15
What did you love best about Warspite?
The advancement of the story from the end of the Ark Royal saga... moving into the next generation of concepts and diplomatic interactions. Brilliant opening... and a few well played plot twists. Overall a well written story.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Percy would have to be my favorite character because of his dealing with his father's legacy and how he made the decisions he made (i.e.- Joining the Royal Marines). Also dealing with being thrust into command.
Have you listened to any of Ralph Lister’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He is a great performer. I have only heard him in this saga, but it is another great work by a great orator.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The discovery of the Vecy...
Any additional comments?
If you are familiar with the rest of the Ark Royal series, this is another great addition to a really good saga...

In the grotesque bell-ringer Quasimodo, Victor Hugo created one of the most vivid characters in classic fiction. Quasimodo's doomed love for the beautiful gypsy girl Esmeralda is an example of the traditional love theme of beauty and the beast. Yet, set against the massive background of Notre Dame de Paris and interwoven with the sacred and secular life of medieval France, it takes on a larger perspective.

Hugo's level of detail and backstory development are more than I am used to. The story is extremely detailed and exquisitely presented. It was well worth the time, and I am glad it did the audiobook version because the printed book would have been more difficult to get through.

In this stirring audiobook, David McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence, when the whole American cause was riding on their success, without which all hope for independence would have been dashed and the noble ideals of the Declaration would have amounted to little more than words on paper.

The. Information presented is insightful and well organized. The only issue I had with this production was the lack of correct chapters. They seem to have just broken the recording into even sections, regardless of where any natural break should be.

The Arsenal of Democracy tells the incredible story of how Detroit answered the call, centering on Henry Ford and his tortured son Edsel, who, when asked if they could deliver 50,000 airplanes, made an outrageous claim: Ford Motor Company would erect a plant that could yield a “bomber an hour”. Critics scoffed: Ford didn’t make planes; they made simple, affordable cars. But bucking his father’s resistance, Edsel charged ahead.

Would you like to know how the universe works? Scientists have been asking that question for a long time and have found that many of the answers can be found in the study of particle physics, the field that focuses on those impossibly tiny particles with unbelievably strange names - the hadrons and leptons, baryons and mesons, muons and gluons - so mystifying to the rest of us.
