Historia
Dr. Michael Guillen, a best-selling author, Emmy award-winning journalist and former physics instructor at Harvard, used to be an atheist ― until science changed his mind. Once of the opinion that people of faith are weak, small-minded folks who just don’t understand science, Dr. Guillen ultimately concluded that not only does science itself depend on faith, but faith is actually the mightiest power in the universe.

More autobiography than substance
Revisado: 11-23-22
A monumental waste of time by an author more interested self praise than really furthering the premise of the book. Science in his mind seems to be this static thing that has stopped exploring and learning.

Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Good piece of author's bias.
Revisado: 11-09-21
Topic extremely interesting and relevant. Very well organized and presented right up to the analysis of Gender Roles... suffice to say that the author's bias came through loud and clear and drew some ridiculous conclusions that make absolutely no sense. If this was supposed to be an opinion work I guess it succeeded, otherwise just a waste of time.

From the acclaimed author of The Dead and Those About to Die comes a sweeping narrative of six decades of combat, and an eye-opening account of the evolution of the American infantry. From the beaches of Normandy and the South Pacific Islands to the deserts of the Middle East, the American soldier has been the most indispensable - and most overlooked - factor in wartime victory.

Riveting misses some other contributors...
Revisado: 07-29-21
Really good and gives credit where it belongs. Seems like only about 12% of the total force ever sees combat, but plays an integral part of support for the Grunt. Could have acknowledged this better. The Grunt does not go alone, but DOES DO THE HEAVY LIFTING. Also could have done a better job in the analysis of the Insurgency in Iraq that was completely missed and finally brought to the forefront by leaders like Petraeus and others. Of course lets not forget that the whole basis for the Iraq invasion was bogus and the Politicians as usual have much wasted noble blood on their hands. A Marine

a Chronicle of Greed
Revisado: 03-08-21
incredibly honest narrative on how little we as an nation considered a culture ( and Cultures) that had been here for 10,000 years. Our taking of lands, displacement of peoples to fulfill OUR destiny in the name of our Religion which we used to justify raw greed is just one more chronicle of our continuing polocies today.

Historia
One of the most acclaimed books of our time - the definitive Vietnam War exposé and the winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. When he came to Vietnam in 1962, Lieutenant Colonel John Paul Vann was the one clear-sighted participant in an enterprise riddled with arrogance and self-deception, a charismatic soldier who put his life and career on the line in an attempt to convince his superiors that the war should be fought another way. By the time he died in 1972, Vann had embraced the follies he once decried. He died believing that the war had been won.

Started reading already completely aware of the incompetence of DJT. Not sure if this is a condemnation of Fred, the Culture, Social disintegration or maybe Man's inherent corruption. If that is so, then DJT is as much a victim as WE are. I think he is simply a criminal of the sort like Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin or pick your Despot. He deserves the full credit for who he is and I hope he spends a long time in Prison for his crimes.

Historia
In looking at the forces that shaped the 2016 presidential election, one thing is clear: Much of the population believes that our economic system is rigged to enrich the privileged elites at the expense of hard-working Americans. This is a belief held equally on both sides of political spectrum, and it seems only to be gaining momentum.

complete misunderstanding of industrial processes
Revisado: 06-27-16
conclusion that all of the auto makers mistakes are a result of the "bean counters" represents a complete misunderstanding of how design and manufacturing works. since when has cost control been a bad idea? should every car maker produce cars that no one can afford or last longer than the underlying technology? this portion of the book shadows the conclusions of the whole book, relegating it to just another pointless rant. don't waste your time on this book.

Historia
Based on previously unavailable documents and interviews with more than 100 key players, including General David Petraeus, The Insurgents unfolds against the backdrop of two wars waged against insurgencies in Iraq and Afghanistan. But the main insurgency is the one led at home by a new generation of officers - including Petraeus, John Nagl, David Kilcullen, and H. R. McMaster - who were seized with an idea on how to fight these kinds of "small wars" and who adapted their enemies' techniques to overhaul their own army.

How to fight a war and win
Revisado: 05-03-16
While I was impressed by the extroidinary skill and intellect of Petraeus and his cohorts, I was somewhat dissapointed that there was no acknowledgement of the lives lost by commanders that were either not interested in efficient methods or just too lazy or egocentric. The fact that Gen Franks had no phase 4 plan is outrageous and Paul Brenner should be in Prison for literally causing the insurgency in the first place. It is heartening that the is,a place in the US Military for the Soldier Scholar so as to hopefully use war to end it for good . USMA 72
