I'm a sucker for anything that has time travel as a contrivance. This is a very enjoyable short story. Thank you, Wil Wheaton, for introducing me to this author - I will look for other works!

Historia
A runaway international bestseller, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry followed its unassuming hero on an incredible journey as he traveled the length of England on foot—a journey spurred by a simple letter from his old friend Queenie Hennessy, writing from a hospice to say goodbye. Harold believed that as long as he kept walking, Queenie would live. What he didn’t know was that his decision to walk had caused her both alarm and fear. How could she wait? What would she say? Forced to confront the past, Queenie realizes she must write again.

I loved learning Queenie's story and how it came to be that Harold Fry would take his unlikely walking journey to visit her near the end of her life.

Historia
Join David as he encounters his eccentric Aunt Betsey, faithful Peggotty and the villainous Uriah Heep, and as he falls in love with Little Em'ly, Dora and Agnes. And then there is old school friend James Steerforth: dashing, daring and seductive. This dramatisation explores the complexities and intimacies of that relationship beyond anything possible in Dickens' day, in an adaptation giving fresh life and vividness to this beloved tale.

Brilliant cast added so much!
Revisado: 12-14-24
I confess that, in my semi-retirement, I'm reading some well-known literature that I've either forgotten or never read in the first place. This "performance" of David Copperfield kept me engaged and sometimes amused as I never was by the words on paper of this Dickens classic.

Historia
Alex Green is a young girl in a world much like ours, except for its most seminal event: the Mass Dragoning of 1955, when hundreds of thousands of ordinary wives and mothers sprouted wings, scales, and talons; left a trail of fiery destruction in their path; and took to the skies. Was it their choice? What will become of those left behind? Why did Alex’s beloved aunt Marla transform but her mother did not? Alex doesn’t know. It’s taboo to speak of.

...which is the main reason for choosing this book. I'd guessed part of how the different characters' storylines might converge, but it was interesting to hear it play out. I have my great-grandmother's Singer treadle sewing machine, so I appreciate the family history connection in the book.

I would have fired her
Revisado: 08-05-23
This was a pick in my book club, and I listened to it while sewing a quilt and walking my dog. it was occasionally entertaining, but I really wanted to fire the protagonist. She was the worst employee ever, by her own admission. There was so much whining about not finding a job she loved, which reminds me of some of my friend's children who are still living at home after college. I wanted to tell her to suck it up, buttercup! A job is to make money so you can do things you love. She just kept making stupid decisions and doing stupid things that hurt people she supposedly cared about.

Historia
Someday a bird will poop on all of us. But that's okay. In a world of bad news, fake news, delays, disappointments, trash talk, and tweets, things are bound to get a little poopy. What matters is not how big the mess is - but how well you react to it. Someday a Bird Will Poop on You is a modern parable about life hitting us with something unexpected - and the perfect gift for anyone leaving home without an umbrella.

intriguing story of the fascination with "oddities" in the Victorian era. Lyrical writing adds charm to the story, and the narrator did a great job of bringing the various characters to life.
