Incredibly over-hyped...
Revisado: 10-05-18
In general I'd say this book is incredibly over-hyped. A whole Audible.com book credit wasted on something you'd read in Better Homes or Parents magazines. I bought the book since it'd been on the NYT's bestseller list for a while, which should have been a detractor and a canary, alas I went for it to keep me company on a long drive. I can see how this book has been helpful to the author and has boosted her self-confidence and social media following, but there's just nothing new or of sue to anyone else in it. It's reasonably entertaining through the anecdotes and personal stories, but in terms of being helpful to anyone else it falls short. Kudos to the author for creating a following and a media "empire" for herself out of no substance, quite an incredible world we live in these days.

Historia
For more than a decade, Katherine Zoepf has lived in or traveled throughout the Arab world, reporting on the lives of women, whose role in the region has never been more in flux. Only a generation ago, female adolescence as we know it in the West did not exist in the Middle East. There were only children and married women. Today, young Arab women outnumber men in universities, and a few are beginning to face down religious and social tradition in order to live independently, to delay marriage, and to pursue professional goals.

Please get a professional reader/performer
Revisado: 11-13-17
The subject is compelling, albeit at this point dated. I wish it had some updates on the most currents situation in SA...after all of the arrests and anti-corruption crackdowns, which incidentally I find ironic.
The reading however is most atrocious, the author indeed comes across as the “journalist Barbie” (a term she brings up in the book). Her voice and delivery are most annoying, I really struggled to listen past the voice and focus on the story. Please, please, there are so many wonderful readers/performers out there, hire one.

Historia
Thousands of years, way before Christopher Columbus set sail, wandering tribes of hunters made their way from Asia across the Bering land bridge to North America. They didn't know it, but they had discovered a New World. The First Americans is a fascinating re-creation of pre-Columbian Native American life, and it's an adventure of a lifetime!

Brilliant!
Revisado: 02-21-17
Excellent performance and format. This is how history should be presented to children and adults alike. Very engaging and thought provoking, leaving the listened curious for more. Great companion to the original books, which I highly recommend as well. Money well spent.
